22BR Build Questions

Starting a 22BR build. Have an HS stock, Savage target action, and a 9 twist blank. Any thoughts on length and velocities? All recomendations much appreciated!

Bench rig, varmint rifle, etc? What is the main use?

Mainly varminting. Its a single shot action and I was hoping to use 69 SMK's on the heavy end and lighter weight bullets most of the time. Just wanted something cheap and accurate to practice with.

For me I would make the barrel a 28" incher in a heavy varmint contour, though a 26" would probably be fine. Love the 22BR by the way!

At which length is optimum velocity achieved? I was hoping to keep the rig as light as possible but don't want to sacrifice too much velocity by cutting the barrel too short. I was going to have a heavy fluting job done to cut down the weight a bit. I know losing some length doesn't neccesarily hurt accuracy but will definately take away from the speed spectrum.
