22BR barrel ?

I am considering my first 22 caliber centerfire barrel, chambered in 22BR, shooting 80 gr bullets. Is a 1 in 7" twist correct for the 80 grainers ?

Is the type of rifling also critical for the 80 gr bullets ? (3 groove, 4 groove, 5R)

Since the .22 centerfire caliber is new to me, are certain barrel manufacturers known to produce more accurate barrels than others ?

I have Krieger, Bartlein, and Brux barrels for my 6mm's currently and was just curious if 1 barrel brand stands out from the others in 22 caliber ?

Whatever brand that I choose will be threaded on a Panda short action, (RBLP) in a McMillan short range benchrest stock.

As for barrel length, I was thinking 26 inches, in a HV contour.

All input is welcome !

I have a 22BR in 1:7 twist. It shoots 80's and 90's. The 80 Nosler Custom Competition bullets shoot best.
My 1:9 .223 shoots 80's well. My 22BR is a Pac-Nor 3 groove. Brux and Kreiger are hard to beat.

With more case capacity than .223 and using the heavies, you can obviously give the nod to slower powders so I'd consider going to 28" for velocity with 4-6" of straight breech before beginning taper to allow for set back options. Ya never know, you just may want to try a different flavor after 2k rds of .2 or better groups on most anything you feed it.
These are just the musings of a G.I.T.

Thanks for all of the info fellas.

One more question, would a 1 in 7.7" twist stabilize the 80 gr pills ?

Barrel is on the way. (Krieger HV, 1 in 7" twist, 29" long)

If I want to go "no-turn" neck, then does a .254 reamer sound right ?

What freebore do I need for the heavies ?

Getcha some brass, dies and bullets.

Size the brass and seat a bullet, then you can measure YOUR brass to get the exact measurement.

Info from others is helpful, but knowing what you have is the only way to go.....;)

80`s in a 22 BR sounds like a lot of fun.......:D:D:D

Waiting for my smith to confirm the .254 reamer. I already have a couple of new "Gold box" Lapua brass.

Can I use a Wilson "neck sizing" only die (with proper bushing) to form the 22BR brass ? (I'm partial to Wilson hand dies)
