You can find the answer for yourself by plugging the numbers into any ballistic calculator (JBM, etc). From experience with a similar cartridge (5.68DMR), one can assume 2900fps from a 30in bbl with 90gr.

I can save you time and tell you the short answer is "no", with the exception of the 22x6.8 which is virtually identical and is already available. The only real difference will be the availability of factory ammo.

I noticed a "typo" in my post. I said "30in bbl", but I meant "20in".

For anyone else who wants to compare, I noticed a problem with AA's published ballistic data. I don't know what calculator they used, but I plugged their raw data into JBM's calculator and came up with far less impressive numbers than they claim. For example, using .551 BC for a 123gr SST at MV of 2620 (24in bbl) I get 1000yd energy of 408 while they claim 462. AA claims retained velocity at that distance of 1300fps, but JBM says 1222. Same problem with drop numbers.
So If you really want to compare the Grendel to the Valkyrie, I suggest using your own raw data inputs rather than trusting AA's posted results.

308 boltface is .473. SPC boltface is, as the referenced post says, .420.

How does the brass hold up? Does it have the same issues as a 223 case when pushing heavies? Also how is it on barrels? I fell for the I need to push the heaviest bullet possible thing a couple years ago. Decided 68 and 69 grainers do what I need to do. I guess the same questions for the 22ppc.

With mag length ammo, I have shot 77gr Nosler out of a .223 AR and 107gr Nosler out of .243LBC AR. With no wind, there is not much of a difference. With wind, the 107gr does better

ok, I wanted to do a heavy throated 223rem TAC rifle for practice and matches. just wondering is the 223rem is worth it over the 224valkyrie.

brass is easy to come by and not worried if i lose a batch during a match.

My vote is 223 throated for 90's , more velocity than 224valkyrie.

I love my 223's but I don't see how it is possible to get more velocity from a 223 since the 224 is more efficient and has a greater case capacity.

Remember, the Valkyrie is designed for a gas gun, magazine fed. I'm sure that a bolt gun can get more velocity with a longer barrel and with more powder

The only hindrance to the above is how strong the 224V brass is. If it is strong we should see more fps than 223. 223 at this point has some really strong brass available, like Lapua and LC. If it isn't strong then we have another big fail like the 22N is now.

But the bolt rifle will be able to support longer OACL which will increase powder capacity with 223 and 224V, probably able to get close to 29 of grains of Varget stuffed in a 224V so approaching 2950 fps with a 90 in a longer barrel.

Just conjecture at this point.

In virgin Lapua with a 90g vld in my 223 Palma rifle I get 2875 with 24.8g of Varget (long throat). I bet with this new cartridge, and the same 90, you could get much more than 2900fps if it was throated long... maybe 3200?
