224 Valkyrie

I had a 20" 5.56x42 (.224" bullet in a 6.8 Case necked down and trimmed, throated for the 75 Amax at mag length) 8 twist barrel on an AR15 that would do 3125fps with 75gr Amax (@2.895" COAL) and it shot good out to 800 yards with CFE223 powder.

The idea has been around for awhile along with i think 6 different configurations using the 6.8 case and different case lengths.
The 5.56x42 barrel from AR15 Performance shot everything great from 40gr vmax @ 4000fps AA2230 to 55gr NBT @ 3600fps N530 to the 75gr Amax @ 3125fps CFE223. It really liked the hotter charges, backing them down the groups opened up pretty fast.

Having factory ammo for the Valkyrie should be nice! Wonder if they will offer a lighter bullet option for varmints? And is the twist 1:6.5 or 1:7 for the 90s?

I found some more information from a preliminary reamer print. It appears that everything from the shoulder forward has been pushed back about .07-.09 in order to accommodate the long bullet, with a 32 deg shoulder.
If you subtract a .638 ogive from 2.265 you get a case trim length of 1.627, which is what the print shows for max case length.
This is good news if you want to make brass from SPC cases, as no fire-forming would be required. Just run into a F/L die and trim to the shorter length.
The 90gr SMK is 1.171 OAL with a .638 ogive. These are factory pointed, so the length is probably conservative. According to these numbers and JBM's stability calculator, anything 1:7.5 or faster twist should provide more than adequate stability (SG=1.5 for MV > 2700fps). Sierra's recommended twist of 1:6.5 or greater is probably based on worst case of lower MV in short barrels.

OOOOOOOOO perfect find here after my let down on the 22 Nosler info and the rebated rim issues

should make a dandy 700 yrd yote getter

Better would be a 22PPC, has more MV and better brass available.

Already available (224AR). Case head too big for AR bolt. AA now only offers "Super-Duper/Hard-Use bolt heads" for the Grendel (same case). "Do ya feel lucky ?"

Show's a 100gr Fusion bullet offered!

Spoke with LWRC tech yesterday and they said they don't plan an "official coming-out party" until SHOT 2018, but he admitted that their hand may be forced earlier because the "cat is already out of the bag".

No wonder Midway has been having crazy sale prices on 22 Nosler brass....

Yep. This idea has been around for a LONG time, but nobody got everything just right, until now.
And re-loaders haven't even had a chance yet to start playing with different propellants, bullets and longer barrels (24in DMR?).
At least on paper this cartridge has the potential to surpass the Grendel, Blackout, 6.8 SPC and 22Nosler as the premier choice in the AR platform.
And in the long run it may finally be the answer to the military's search for a "one size fit's all" replacement for the 5.56 and 7.62.

How about getting us some cartridge dimensions? Cartridge print?

Curious to know what one twist is used for all those.

I would hope that a 7 twist would cover everything. I think a 6 twist or even 6.5 twist would be not a good thing.

I am excited about the 100gr Fusion bullet! That will be hell on pigs in a MSR.

For anyone interested, called Federal tech and he said case length was about 1.6154" and neck length was about .284".

Said "it wasn't going to be available until after the first of 2018".
