with the way powder prices are going I think everybody should be looking at the .223 and it’s AI brother when it comes to PD shooting as well as other high volume shooting…
I have a 24" 223 and a 22" 223AI. The AI is a nice compact package with a suppressor on it. With the right powder is seeing almost 150 FPS gains over the 223.Exactly why I just built a LR trainer in a 223 Wylde with a 28" Bartlein. I thought about doing the AI, but I didn't want the extra hassle of fire forming and expensive dies. Plus, you're only gaining around 100fps, which at the end of the day ain't crap, or anything to get overly excited about. I get 3000-3050fps with the 75g ELDMs as is. Almost 300 rounds to 1# of powder. Will definitely save on components and barrel life to the 6 Creed and 7-300 Win Mag.
I shoot .223AI on Rock Chucks. It is quite effective up to about 360 yards. You might consider a 22/250AI. You will increase your shooting range and they are quite an improvement over the standard 22/250.Hi fellow shooters
I always like to ask other shooters opinions about things. I have a 22.250. Great caliber. When the barrel goes I will most likely switch it to something else.
I asked last year about the 250 Savage VS the 6-250 and thanks for all the info.
Now I am re-thinking because of the heavier bullets in the .224, such as the 80 gr. Wind is the biggest reason I wanted to go to the 6mm bullet originally.
I need to keep the recoil down as much as possible, medical issues. So that's why I am thinking of staying with the 22 cal.
The 223 AI, from what I have read & understand, is right on the heals of the 22.250 and brass is much more available & cheaper.
If anyone has a .223 AI or first hand knowledge of this cartridge please inform me of the pro's & con's.
Thanks
