223AI feeding issues

I was wondering if anyone has built an AR for the 223AI. If so, are you having any feeding issues? What length barrel and twist did you use? I would like to use it for varmint and plinking out to 300 yards.

I have had no feeding issues w/ the AI in an AR-15. It was used in ATC matches where feeding reliability is paramount. Quick twist and heavy bullets
are also the requirement. You should not have feeding problems using the lighter varmint bullets.

jpretle, thanks for your comment. I am not familiar with ATC matches, can you elaborate? I was thinking about a 14 or12 twist, but I'm not sure whether to use a 20" or 24" barrel out to 300. I would like it to be heavy enough for target but light enough for hunting.

Just an FYI, with that slow a twist you will be limited to a max 60gr bullet. You might want to think about a 9 twist.

Greg, I had thought about the 9 twist but wanted to stay in the light bullet range (30-53gr). If I were to go with a faster twist it would be an 8.

jpretle, I have heard of the Across the Course matches in High Power, sometimes the mind will play tricks with you, but my home range is so short here we only do High Power at 200 yards and with reduced targets. I've only shot out to 300 yards on my property down south clearing unwanted varmints. Work can sometimes be fun.
