Avoiding feeding issues

I have a Deviant Hunter SA which will have a detachable box magazine. I'm going to put a 24" barrel on it for a 6mm bullet. I was planning on having it made for a 6mmBRAI but have been warned that there might be unwelcomed feeding issues. I'm wondering if I changed to a 6 x 47 Lapua if it would feed significantly better. A second question would be- is there a reliable way to make either of these work? Thanks for any and all informed help.

...is there a reliable way to make either of these work?

In the days before DBMs, we used to have to spend a while with each rifle getting it to feed a selection of bullets reliably. Most of these were big game rifles chambered for any of the outsize cartridges/AI and destined for out the way locations where another gunsmith wouldn't be available. Necessity dictated that the rifle would feed perfectly each and every time. I can still do most of these cartridges in bolt action rifles from memory both mental and muscle. However, a new day has dawned and we are in the era of DBM actions and chassis readily available to build on.

The 40 degree shoulder can and does provoke some hesitation on the part of both the shooter/reloader and the gunsmith for consistent reliability. But no more:

Yes, these modifications will cost you a little more money per magazine but the benefits are substantial. No muss, no fuss, no mess or failure.

In response to your first question, the 6x47 Lapua is a fine cartridge which will feed well through your magazines. The target shooters push it to the 1,000 yard mark and the hunters enjoy the limited recoil and substantial energy for hunting.

Enjoy!
