223 with Vhit133

Guys,

I am going to start a little load work for a friends 223. I have h335, benchmark and some vhitt 133. I have used 335 and benchmark before and have had good results. I would like to try v133 this time around with bullets in the 40g to 50g.

For those that have used 133, what are your loads. I am trying to see where max might be. Thanks for share your info

Jaime

Here's a couple of targets shot with my Cooper M21 VR in 223 using N133. Nothing magic, but it seems to work.

My old standby powder for the 223 is H335....MUCH less expensive and more suited to the high volume ground squirrel shooting I do. My groups using 335 are only about .1" larger, all other things being equal.

I developed a load for a chap's semi custom 223 using 50gr Hornady Vmax, Fed Match primers and 25.1gr of N133 When seated 20th this was the result:Bradley .223 (A).jpg

And seated 40thou back

Thanks, I have hit a couple of sites for info. There are many knowledgeable shooters on this site and i want to see what and how they are doing when they use 133.

My varmint load is 23.4 gr N133 behind a 52 gr SMK. Sub 1/2 MOA out of my AR-15.

I have 1-14T with zero freebore, Hart match chamber. Non trued rem 700 with McMillen Hunter class stock, 8-32 Pentax light seeker 30, jewel trigger.

26.0 is a max load of N33 for this rifle with a 7 1/2, and I have had my bolt bushed by Gre-Tan rifles. Accuracy is like Peter H, but I seat the 50g Nosler BT touching the lands, velocity is 3600. As you can see by peterh's groups, they are tiny to say the least. My 3 shot groups are often in the 1's and very low 2's. I can put up the mini clay pigeons at 400 yards, never miss one, then go back and hit the pieces.

What ever it is worth, while you are on the N powder kick, the N135 with the 55g is pure magic at 3500 fps, same size groups. It is good to use a drop tube when using either powder, as it appears that these powders do not like a lot of compression.

My best load so far is below, I'm shooting a tikka .223 but I do know know the velocity. The groups are .5 or better.

55Gr. V-max
24.5gr. N133
.020 off lands
