.223 varmint bolt gun loads

Hey I'm able to find a bunch of AR loads but I'm wondering what are some of your varmint bolt gun loads for 55gr and less. Thanks

Tater, Got a handful of 223's and for best accuracy they all prefer different powders, just my luck! N133, H4895 and Benchmark to name a few. I suggest you load several behind the BlitzKing of your choice and give them a "shot!". Can you tell I like the BK's? None of mine seem to have a preference for primers and I use BR-4's. I really like WCC cases due to cost but also use Lapua. Good luck and have a "blast!", I'm on a roll!

Thanks! My pops shoots the BK and I need to try them. I know I haven't found the right combo yet because just about everything is a nice .5-.6 average (factory gun) which I'm honestly fine with but I know that I haven't found 'the' load to make this thing really shoot. I'll be trying the 55 BK's here soon but I think I might go 25.5+ in powder with Benchmark.

THERES ALOT FOR A BOLT GUN I STAY WITH 50GR 52 GR BULLETS WITH THE POWDER POSTED ABOVE W/ OUTSTANDING RESULTS!!!BUILDING A 223 ACKLEY TO BLAST SOMETHING WITH!!!!!!!!!

Thanks fellas, I have tried N133 and 8208 but Benchmark seemed to do a little better in my gun. Today I shot 3 different bullets (all with Benchmark) and my target was one of those little orange dots. Every group was inside those dots and all looked like it was shot with the same load. Thats good in a way because its not real picky and shoots well but I think its still telling me to find "the" bullet. The main one I have left to try are both the 50 and 55 Blitzking and if they don't shoot any better than I'll have to stretch it out to 200 to tell me more.

I found a great load recently, but I'm out of town and away from my book. 55 Barnes an 335. I know so you don't have to say it. Barnes. I bought a bunch for plinking. I Think the important component was the H335. I'll be home tomorrow. Will let you know.

Common good performer in some bolt guns is Ball-C(2). On a road less traveled, W-W 748, and for the 55 gr. bullets, IMR 3031 and 4064. As you have already seen, your rifle will tell you; with 3031 and 4064, I didn't bother with a powder measure, I used a dipper into the scale pan and trickled up to the desired charge weight to get consistent charge to charge weight. 748 through a Culver measure is like metering water - variation is a foreign word. :)

I have seven 223 bolt guns, all with 12" twists.

I use 50 and 55 grain Nolser BT bullets - super accurate. I've tried numerous other bullets that work well too such as the Hornady V Max's and the Sierra Blitz bullets.

The following powders work very well with these weight bullets: H4895, Varget, H335, Benchmark.

My favorite is H4895, all my rifles shoot it exceptionally well.

12t and I shot the 53's yesterday and they did good (.6 ish) but didn't stand out from the others

Do you have any N133 to try with the 53`s???

My .223AI is in the works and it will be the first powder i try with the 53`s.

Phil.

I'm home and checked my book. 22 grains of H335 with the 55 grain. It's a coaster but it's accurate in my Remmy.

.....Rem 700 SPS Varmint, 1 in 12 twist, 55 gr Sierra Blitz or SPT (and 53 gr SMK), 25-25.5 gr IMR 4064 (or 26 gr Varget), jumping .015 inch. Old 4064 has beat Varget for this rifle. Flat base bullets only as this rifle will not group boat tails at all.

I really had a sweet load from a factory Rem 700 ADL 12 twist. It was the midway dogtown bullets in 55gr HP. These would easily go under one moa (usually under 3/4) with 27.5 gr of Varget on top of a fed 205M primer in a Winchester case. I forget the velocity now but if I remember, it was 3350-3375 fps from a 24" barrel. I could run 28 gr if I used a drop tube. No pressure signs at 27.5 gr.

had real good luck with the 55gn sierra(#1345) and H 4895 in the same kind of rifle. It did not like any hornady bullets.
