Well varmints & paperDid you want to tell us what kind of shooting you want to do with this rig?
It helps narrow the discussion a whole lot.
I have a Rem model XR-100 with a New Krieger 1-7.7 unfired , Factory laminated thumb hole stock. PM me for pictures.
ok thanks keep in mindI would start with a savage probably an axis or what’re they are calling them now. Last night I worked with a model 11 trophy hunter that has morphed into a 223 with a model 12 varmint barrel. The gun started as a 204 spotter weight. Shots easily about an inch or less with common cheap components. And you can given time do a lot of swapping things like barrels, scopes, triggers, stocks. Enjoy it along the way.
Ok thanks bud will lookLots of people will dissent, but you might take a look at a Ruger American Predator. 1-8" twist barrel, uses AR-type magazines and shoots up a storm (at least mine does). Shoots 50 to 68-grain bullets into tiny little holes. Twist is fast enough for even heavier bullets but I haven't used any yet.
Ok thanks I have an axis in 243 & put a trigger in it and it shoots good .The savage axis is a 1/7 or 1/9 twist and for the money is well worth it. You could put it into a Boyd's or Stocky stock and jaz it up some. Most of them shoot very well, for out of the box. The trigger needs some work, but Basic and others have upgrades that are very reasonable in price.
Ya a good rifle no doubt i see looking At the CZ 527 but it looks like they discontinued that rifle in 2021I got a savage axis a few years back for $295 with scope from bass pro. Wanted it for calling coyotes in bad weather. Installed a mcarbo trigger spring kit and slight load work up. Shoots just under 1/2 with no major load development. Its plain but it shoots. Hell even left the scope on it that it came with.
I have a tikka t3x 1/8 twist in .223 it is the varmint model. I shoot the 69 gr STMK for Pa. groundhogs and it does really well, I have numerous groundhog rifles and this is my favorite. I tried Varget and R15 with max loads the Varget shot under 3/4 of an inch R15 was about a 1/2 of an inch. I changed the trigger spring and the trigger is very good, I don't think you could go wrong buying one of these rifles.Looking to buy a 223 been looking at tikka SV 223 factory gun 1/8 twist barrel but is there other options out there that are equal want a fast twist barrel not trying to start a argument just want to make a good decision oh and a bolt action.

Be hard to find a super varmint model. The older black stock ones anyways. I don’t think many was imported. Super varmint had pic rail ( Do not remember if it was bolted on or milled ) and the stock had an adjustable cheek riser. That I’m aware of those was only differencesvarmint vs super varmint?
