Here is the print that was suggested for .223 Rem using 80 grain bullets. Any comments? I want to get it right the first time. This will be a bolt gun shooting f/tr.

Thanks for looking,
Scott

Call dave kiff for his thoughts to check one against the other. Your freebore is what I question.

sbrabec: Your reamer print dimensions are very close to mine, for a PTG 223 Rem. reamer.

My neck is .253" vs your.254". My loaded round neck diameter with Lapua brass is .250", so the .253" works fine.

My freebore is .072" vs your .0716", so we're also close there. It works fine for the 80 gr. SMK's in both mine and my son's rifle.

Chamber over-all-length is 1.770" for .010" longer than max case length vs 1.772" for yours.

Our reamers are very close.

For me, this reamer is a keeper, as I will have other chambers cut with it.

Forgot to mention: My son competes in F/TR match's with his 223 using 24.5 grs. of Varget with the 80 gr. SMK, out to 600 yards, and he's shot himself into the Master Class with it.

Scott,
Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool is a great guy to deal with. I suggest you look at the .223 80.5 grain Fullbore bullets, their BC rocks.

For comparison purposes of different chambers/reamers specs.

Your print looks like the JGS 5.56 NATO version.

Hi Scott
I have had 2 different reamers and the true and tested I got made up at JGS its a hummer you will be able to shoot the 80gr or 80.5 Bergers as well the 90gr VLD & match bullets. I have found the JGS makes there reamers EXACTLY to spec sheet some others no so.
I will try and get copy for you, I have trouble getting on to computer to post
I have had and seen best twist to be 1/7 and at 30.5" I really like the Tru Flite SG barrels in there ultra Match grade
here is a target I shot at 300y, only 3 shots and I will never do again but 1/2 to .700 isquite possible in good conditions.and it works great to 1000y put 12 of 15 shots in 5 " in good conditions
use Lapua brass neck turned full cut my reamer has a .253 neck

That is a good working load! The reamer that was used for my current 223 is a Wilde with the throat moved out to match the seating depth that I wanted for the 90's. My current seating depth is 2.032 from base to ogive. It is soft seating and I have not change this seating depth since I have started shooting this rifle. On a good day when I am shooting prone with irons, the normal elevation is 5-6 inches. I have shot as little as 4 inches and sometimes as high as 8 inches. All my shooting is prone with a sling.
