223 h4895 75 through 90

I ended up landing 16 lb of h4895 and I was going to use it in my fiance's 223 and 223 Ackley. We'll probably use from 55 to 90 grand bullets. Any comments?

I have been working up a load around 90 grain SMK's with some success. The original was from Mr. Jerry Tierny using Reloader 15. I had some Norma 203B which is supposed to be very similar. However, it seems that neither of those powders are available. Are they out of production, will no longer be imported? Thank you for any information.

I like it better than Varget that everyone says is best. It is a little faster burn so I get faster velocities with it.

I'm sure that Laurie will know the answer - but it is "likely" that 203B and Re15 are/were the same or similar powders made by Bofors. I say similar, as the burn rate may differ to their requirements. Alliant still list re15 on their website- although I havent seen much down here recently. Not a powder that I use - but did find an unused tin of 203B in my store recently.

I have been using H4985 for some time now in all my 223 Rem bolt rifles when Varget became unavailable a few years ago. I managed to obtain an 8-pound keg of H4895 back then and the results have been excellent which I will detail below.

In my 12" twist rifles, I am using H4985 with 50 and 55 grain Nosler BT's. Both have performed extremely well in the 1/2 to sub 1/2 moa range. I would give the edge to the 55's accuracy wise. This is my go-to combo for varmint and predator hunting. Outstanding performance in the field.

In my 8" twist rifle, I am using H4895 with 60 Vmax's in my three Tikka's. I am easily getting consistent 1/2 moa with this combo. This is my fall / winter range practice combo, but I am hoping to test it out this winter on predators.

Federal 205M match primers used with all loads.

I am so impressed with this powder in my 223 Rem bolt rifles that I hope to continue to use it if I can find it.

Thank you for your comments. Thus far I have not been able to find either of the two in this country.

Eurenco Bofors in Sweden is almost totally committed to military orders right now. Ukraine aside, the Scandinavian countries are rearming and increasing ammunition stocks at a massive rate thanks to the real and present danger now presented to them from their (un)friendly neighbour to the East. Sweden and Finland have also joined NATO which adds to their military requirements, especially Finland which doesn't use NATO cartridges in the primary role and will be reequipping its armed forces almost entirely in coming years. Production and normal supplies will presumably resume at some point in the future, but who knows when?

Please send all complaints to Vladimir Putin Esq., c/o the Kremlin, Red Square, Moscow.

There is an extensive live thread on the subject running:

Laurie - I am following your suggestion regarding complaints. Thanks for the address. Here is the greeting card I will send:

Thank you for your analysis. Brownell's just announced they had received some Alliant powder and I was able to buy some Reloader 15.
