223 AR muzzle brake opinions

I recently bought a new AR don't have a lot of AR knowledge. Opinions is a muzzle brake necessary? What company"s make a good mid priced brake? Can I install or do you need a gunsmith? Thanks

Not necessary, plus read article on the Bulletin dated April 4, 2015. I shoot a AR in .223 with very stout loads, I jokingly call it my "little girl gun" when speaking to others. An adjustable gas block will do wonders for taming recoil and muzzle jump.

You could try a harrels radial brake and they are stainless and will thread it to anything you need. If yours is threaded it should be 1/2-28 thread. They are 30.00 and if you want it to blend they will turn it to the size to match your barrel diameter. It doesn't have to be timed so it is so easy a caveman can do it.LOL Since you are newer here a big easter welcome.

It can be fun to "accessorize", but a brake on an AR is good only for the cool factor. Save your money for ammo. That's the fun of an AR. Mine is a plain jane, out of the box, load and shoot Rock River. Groups? We dont need no stinking groups.(some times I just blast away). My bad. I did get one of those little Acog 4x for it. Nice little scope.

I ended up making one like a radial Harrells. The Harrells radial comes unfinished meaning that the OD and bore ID needs machined to size and the font face off/tapered/crowned or whatever. Jon said Harrells will turn the OD, but not sure if they will totally finish it.

There are many styles out there to fit 1/2-28 threads....most are just for the tacticool factor. The simple radial and side ported brakes always seem to work. I figure if you are going to screw something one....it might as well function.
