223 9twist

I agree with most of the reply's, 9tw is good up to about 70grn projectile. I shoot fullbore .223 with a 80grn A Max from 300 to 900 yds using a 8tw with some competitors down to 7 1/2tw achieving excellent results. however competition can be difficult on windy days.

Here is a link to a stability calculator.
http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi

Stability depends on the RPM of a bullet. The longer the bullet, the faster it needs to spin to stabilize. Weight is often referred to, as when bullets get longer they in turn get heavier. But length is the most important deciding factor.

I got heavily schooled in this area trying to find bullets that work in my 6-284, as it has a slow for caliber twist of 1-10. Some bullets will work at the same weight of others that won't simply because they are shorter.

At an upper limit of 75 grains, I lose enough accuracy to not make it worth my while to go higher in weight. I know others who have had better luck with higher bullet weights, but I just can't get there with my 1 in 9 twist .223 barrel.
