.222 RemMag conversion into .223 Rem

Hello dear reloader friends, I am Ralf and come from the north of Germany, hence my nick name "Nordlicht".
I turn to you with a question, where I am not quite clear whether this can work.
A friend of mine from Germany, a real "Kraut" as well, has a Krico 600 in .222 RemMag caliber that shoots very well with Sako 55 grains.
The problem in the meantime is that there is no supplier for this ammunition in Germany anymore except for Sako and Sako has delivery problems. Now you can delete the issue by buying a larger batch of the ammunition next time you shop, which makes sense anyway, but in the long run that's not so satisfying either. He is not a reloader and will not become one.
My question now would be whether it would make sense and/or be technically possible to set up the cartridge chamber with a tool for the caliber .223 Rem.
How do you see this? Is that a possibility or is that simply nonsense.
Or do you have other ideas? He will not want to have the barrel changed because that would exceed the value of the rifle.
Thanks for reading. Appreciate any comments.

I compared reamer prints and my calculations are 2.5mm set back needed for an absolute chamber clean up to .223 Rem.
Not that his throat would be worn from 1) that chambering or 2) he does not reload (high volume shooter) but I would think taking an extra mm or two would ensure success....say 4mm.
Guys, check behind me on this, please.

A little velocity will be lost from the smaller case 223 but nearly negligible from a bbl shortened by 4mm. Hope this helps. Tom

I really hate to see classic old rifles butchered up. There would be a bit of machine work that needs to be done and the gunsmith that will do the work might be the person to answer the question better.

Another thought would be to rechamber to 5.6x50 Mag, I believe RWS and S&B load it, but you would have to look into that with your smith also.

Too bad reloading is out of the question as 222 Rem Mag brass can be made from 204 Ruger and 5.6x50 Mag. Have you looked into the possibility of custom loaded ammo?
