222 remington and 222rem mag??

Are these two chambering as accurate as a 6ppc? Or could they be?? I was under the impression that the 222 used to be the king of short range Bench Rest. Is this true?? Lee

No. No. Yes the 222 WAS Dominate for several years, as was it's derivative the 222 1/2.
The 222 is less forgiving if one misreads conditions.
There is a legitimate reason the BR folks go to the trouble to make 6 PPC cases, no other chambering can compete with it in registered competition...save the 30 BR.

A .243 Winchester, unmodified, prevails over all .22 centerfires, yet a .222 Remington recoils far less. I chose the .223 Remington as the lightest round that gives me the best of all velocity-performance-accuracy choices. Ragged one hole groups with 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips will make a believer out of anyone. Still, I love the sheer power, low-recoil, extreme accuracy combo of my .243 Winnie Pooh. It will suffice in whatever situation with correct loads and bullets. .222 Remington Magnums will equal .223 Remington loads, but why try to buck economy-performance-accuracy available through .223 Remington prowess? cliffy

If your goal is one-hole accuracy with multiple shots up to 300 yards, measured in the .1 - .2's MOA, with consistancy vs. .3 - .4's MOA, ragged one hole) then there is no other equivalent to the 6 ppc or 30 BR.
MY goal EVERY time I shoot is to get ALL the bullets,5) through the same EXACT hole .....a .000 group,group shooting) or to obliterate,wipe out) a 1/16 MOA dot with the shot perfectly centered in the 10 ring for 25 targets,score shooting).
The evidence that the 6PPC is the hands-down short-range accuracy winner is overwhelming, and proven by hundreds of competitors worldwide every year.....and has been for nearly 3 decades now.
That being said, in order for this cartridge to perform at this level requires a significant learning curve, i.e. 'tuning' which few are willing to expend the time and $$$ to learn.

Can you get the same one hole performance out of a no turn 6ppc? To be honest the only thing holding me back on a ppc is the cost of brass. Prepped brass is $1.80 a piece. I could fire form it i guess. I do shoot some club level events but nothing major at this point. I just dont know if i want to invest in all the necessary items to shoot a 6ppc as it should be done. .3' groups are pretty cool in my book. .1 and .2 even better of course, but that comes at a price. I have 4 different custom rifles that will shoot in the 3's and it tickles me to death. Just looking at different angles. I thought i read some where that the 222 was king of the short range game, so i thought I'd ask. Thanks lee

Some are having great success with no-turn chambers, while others who have tried them are back to using their .262 neck reamers.
I have recently been playing with a new 6BR no-turn # 5 sporter,coyote gun) and have been very impressed with it's accuracy....and the relative ease it takes to get there. Perhaps it 's just an anomaly, but this 6BR shot small dots from the git-go.
Yes, my LV 6PPC yields smaller dots, but it takes more work to achieve that goal, i.e. brass prep, load tuning.
Once a season, I use my HV gun in .222 for a local score shoot and it is a struggle to stay clean in all but the mildest conditions.... but it is pure joy to shoot compared to my HV 30BR.
Unless you are serious about competition, go with a cartridge that offers accuracy without the hassle so you spend more time shooting...6BR.
