222 Rem mag brass

Lefty, @79 l know l'm just a babe compared to your Ancient 83. My 40X in 222Rem Mag is still surprising me! Just today l found a seller on GunBroken selling cases of R-P 222 Remington Magnum 55gr SP ammo. I bought a 200rd case of it from him. He had several more cases too!

l know this is an old post but my be we l could get it in motion again, l my brother gave a custom built rifle in 222 Rem. mag with dies and some Rem. 222 mag brass, rifle was built in 1969, built on a Sako L461 barrel is Douglass Premium BR date stamp 4-69 26" 1.010 diam. full length of barrel, trigger is stock but l was able to polish the sears and change a spring, trigger brakes between 14 and 16ozs, stock is a Herters varmint, working up loads just 3 shot groups and l found what it likes Rem. 52g Match, 20g to 20.5 of IMR 4189 OAL length 2.425 best so far .165, .250 to .500 no problem, next Sierra 53g match #1400 20g to 21g of IMR 4189 doing about the same as the Rem. an other was with Speer 52g HP still working on this, all with IMR powder.
l to will be looking for brass l only have 26 cases of 222 rem. brass.
Rifle scope Weaver T36 rings? there was a 30mm scope on it had to buy nylon inserts 30mm to 1" there working great.
This was a safe Queen for a long time Rifle is mint.
And having fun with it at 83 years young and beating my son with his new high end Savage in 223.

Howdy !

Your post response was just superb !

Outstanding “ Deuce Mag “ rifles, that you described just above ! Great lookin’ rifle in the pics !

Bought a stainless .222Mag barrel take-off barrel, that appeared to have originated from the Remington custom shop.

Gave it to my best friend, who had an area benchrest rifle smith integrate it on a massaged M-700 action, in a BDL stock. The gun was like setting the clock back to the
Iatter -70’s, when Fred Sinclair was assembling varmint rifles for us. I also bought all the Deuce Mag brass I could find, much of it NIB Remington brand… until he said “ stop “.
I figured his rifle would be great to take along on a PD trip.

My friend considers his Deuce Mag barrel to be “ primo “, so its application on PDs is out. He uses the gun to wax the occasional groundhog on his property.

Again, for me…. great response you posted !

357- Nosler makes brass AND loaded ammo for your ''Deuce MAG''. Both are ln Stock at Nosler, Midway and GB

My enthusiasm for this 222 Mag and 40X was further enhanced by posting of 4133FPS from this gun on Jarrett's chrono at their range recently. The load was straight from BERGER'S Manual using their 30gr HP
Varmint bullet and AA2200 powder. The load was not MAX either. lt's the first 4000fps+ load l have EVER shot! l have been loading/shooting rifles since the 70s l guess you'd consider me a timid loader. l never venture out past a manual's loads

l found the ammo on GB that's a good round, it a spitzer type head used them in the 70s, l'm a re-loader l'm looking for brass.
ln 1976 l had a Rem. 40X in 22-250 with 27" SS barrel that l wanted to use in bench rest shooting, l bought 40X new for that caliber you couldn't get a Rem. 40XBBR in 22-250 made a call to Rem. Custom shop and asked if we could do a swap with the stocks, l wanted bench rest stock they said ok shipped out my stock and within to week l had my Bench rest stock, l did OK as a new shooter in matches l still have some targets from the match 5 shot under .250 at 100 years, 35.5g H380 with sierra 55g spitzer or 53g sierra match, rifle fell into light varmint class. l sold it 8 years ago, mistake water under the bridge.
This was my Rem.40XBBR W/Leoupld MX8X24 target scope with fine crosshairs and1/8 dot.
lt also did a job upstate NY on wood chucks on my friends small dairy farm clear the fields and plug up the holes. l still have the sales slip for it $345 and $119 for the scope.

Great reading we all have stories to tell, my first chuck rifle was Rem.700 BDL in 222rem. that lasted one year l need a little more steam to get beyond 300 yards for across the valleys, l bought a Savage 112V single shot in 22-250 with a 26" barrel one good shooting rifle, also sold that rifle.
Good old days around 1973 up state NY with my 1967 Ford wagon it went every where rain or snow.

Thanks for the reply, Natchez had it on sale all so free shipping plus 5% discount as a good customer put it in my cart ends 24th went to my cart on the 25 and there was nothing, l called them there is nothing they could do l missed it by one day.

4000fps that is pushing it, OK to do it once in a while but l want my barrel to last, l did that with my 22-250 and l think it was a 50g bullet l watch some disintegrate going downrange puff of smoke.

l try to find a happy medium with my loads, manuals today don't tell you what length the test barrel is, l'm using old manuals 30 to 40 years old ones with 26" barrels for 222 rem. mag l'm using IMR power old stock 4198 was out yesterday with my son, only shooting 3 shot groups 100 yards staying under 1/2" best was .216 and that was with sierra 53g match HP, rem. 52g match HP 40 year old heads from my bench rest day, rifle is not liking what l have in 55g heads so far.

l had to do some stock work on this right hand rifle, l'm a left hand shooter l like the stock nice wide beaver tail fore end that sit's good in my front bag, that roll over cheek piece was not letting me get a good scope picture so out comes the wood working tools, l had to drop it down 1/2" and remove some of the roll over on the right side of the stock, it's done stain matched light oak, will post before and after.
This Sako is out shooting my Rem.700SPS in 223 rem. it would be nice if the Jewel trigger on the rem. would fit the Sako it goes' down to 2oz.
The Remington rifle is a loner from my other brother, l sold all my center rifle some years back.

Any one have pet loads loads the are working for your 222 rem. mag. post if you don't mined. l Have a lot of IMR power and some Win. 748 that has worked good for me in the past, and some H380

l'm old school and not to up to date on all this new power, most is geared to the AR platform in 223 with short barrels.

Beautiful gun lefty. l actually have a pix of Jarrett's showing 4133fps on their GARMIN. Berger Manual said
27.1gr of AA2200. l loaded 27gr even. l think the barrel will last. l only loaded 10 of these 30gr Bergers. l only have a full box and a piece of these 30s. From the three 40X Remingtons l have gotten in the past
couple years, this 222Rem Mag is by far the most FUN!
