204 ruger brass

I have been considering buying a 204 but have read that the brass is pretty weak, even the nosler stuff, wearing out after only 5-6 loads. I know the 204 is based off the 222 rem mag so 222 rem mag brass can be made into 204. My question is: could 222 brass be used to make 204 brass?

My thought was that since the 222 is the parent case for 222 rem mag and 222 rem mag the parent for 204, then why couldn't you go from 222 to 204? That would allow you to use Lapua 222 brass so the issues with weak brass would be solved.

Is this plausible or is there enough difference between 222 and 222 mag that it would not work?

The 222 case is too short. Case lengths are:
222---------- 1.700
222mag----- 1.850
204---------- 1.850

PS: Build a 20 caliber with the 221, 222, or 223 as the parent case. Plenty of choices.

222 brass is way to short. I have some Winchester brass with 16 firings on them, never even a loose primer pocket. Some people have no idea what they are flapping their gums about.

What JohnHenry said - y'all know my preferences are 20-221AI w/32's & 20-223AI w/39/40's. Use Lapua, or maybe LC brass - unbelievable performance & accuracy is easy to obtain.

Well that idea was quickly shot down. Thanks for the info guys. I'll be looking into the .20-222 or maybe even a .20-250 since i have a large quantity of 22-250 brass around.

MathewsSB, Attached link has some good info on the 20-222.

PS: IMO always a good idea to try to figure how to utilize top quality Lapua brass.

Norma is making 204 ruger brass and it is nice. I made a 6x47(222 rem mag parent) and was able to find 222 rem mag brass. When shot with my loads the primer pockets were loose after only a few firings. I bought the Norma 204 brass and expanded to 6mm and put them to the test. The primer pockets were tight before and still are after multiple firings. If you still have your heart set on a 204 ruger, this brass is good.
