222 Rem mag brass

This project is getting out of hand quickly. $430 for reamer and HS gauge. I called Redding and a full length sizing die and seater would be $725. I spec'd another reamer. I will be making both my sizing and seating die.
Is there something custom about your chamber that makes standard 222 magnum dies unusable?

$725 seems like a “please go away” kind of price. Maybe Redding doesn’t want to be making custom dies. Not many options left for one-off dies with Whidden stopping too.

An ''as-new'' 40X in 222 Rem Mag came to live with me recently. Jking from Utah sent me R-P 222mag brass. Also won an auction off flebay for RCBS 222mag dies @$9!! SmokinJoe has been coaching me on loading this MAGNUM. Best group as of this Thursday on Jarretts range is @.185'' using 55gr SMKs, 7.5 Rem primers, and VV133 pdr. l mounted an old 'Made in USA' FX Leupold 12X with target knobs on this 40X. Scope has fine crosshairs and a tiny dot. Joe said l could maybe get the groups smaller if l added just a little ''MORE'' powder. These 55gr Sierras aren't varmint bullets, l am going to try some 50gr TNTs.

When a sizing reamer costs $250, if you have access to a lathe, it seems like the cheapest option anymore.

Cost and availability of dies has certainly put the brakes on some wildcat ideas Ive had recently.
Yes Sir! I do have 2 Bridgeports and a couple lathes. The 222 mag ackley barrel is in the lathe waiting on a friend to install the 3 pos safety. When I get it I can ream and headspace the barrel and of course cut and crown. Thanks to the good members of this forum helping me to round up 100 rounds of brass. Now I can put my unfinished dies in a collet and use my resize reamer to make my sizing die and my chamber reamer to make the seating die. I'm waiting on jghoghunter to profile the stock from the blank that I got from Dave Tooley. The 30BR project is a rifle for myself and new shooters at our club to be able to shoot a monthly 200 yd shoot.

l know this is an old post but my be we l could get it in motion again, l my brother gave a custom built rifle in 222 Rem. mag with dies and some Rem. 222 mag brass, rifle was built in 1969, built on a Sako L461 action the barrel is Douglass Premium BR date stamp 4-69 26" 1.010 diam. full length of barrel W1/14T, trigger is stock but l was able to polish the sears and change a spring, trigger brakes between 14 and 16ozs, stock is a Herters varmint, working up loads just 3 shot groups and l found what it likes Rem. 52g Match, 20g to 20.5 of IMR 4189 OAL length 2.425 best so far .165, .250 to .500 no problem, next Sierra 53g match #1400, 20g to 21g of IMR 4189 doing about the same as the Rem. an other was with Speer 52g HP still working on this, all with IMR 4198 powder.
l to will be looking for brass l only have 26 cases of 222 rem. brass.
Rifle scope Weaver T36 rings? there was a 30mm scope on it had to buy nylon inserts 30mm to 1" there working great.
This was a safe Queen for a long time Rifle is mint.
