222 REM brass choice

I am no benchrest shooter, but have had very good accuracy with Lake City. Lots of guys dont like it but has worked well for me. I usually find it on sale at my local range for free.
Does LC make 222 brass ? Are you making it from 223?

Never had any issues with 223rem. Winchester brass.
F.C. commercial ( not Nato ) is good as well.

I don't like 5.56,x45 nato brass unless it's VIRGIN.

Many times when I talk about my .222's people say "you mean .223?" They think I misspoke. Some will say I should rechamber my .222's to a "real cartridge" - a .223. Go figure. Others figure they're the same thing, after all 222 is just one short of 223!

To the OP, I prefer Lapua in my .222's but it's unobtanium these days so I went to Norma. Norma to my experience is just as good, but significantly more expensive than Lapua. I surmise Lapua will catch up pricewise when they start shipping .222 again. If you're in need of brass, use Norma without reservation.

I tried to resize 222 from 223 LC brass but was disappointed with the accuracy. Tried it a couple times including with annealing. It was not even accurate enough for varmint work.

Lapua by far is my favorite however if it’s unavailable then my next choice is Norma. Idk if Peterson makes it but if they do it should be excellent brass. A few years back I bought some new old Remington that was as good as I’ve used!… it came in primed boxes of 50. I see star line was mentioned, only experience I have with it is in straight wall cases but seems to be holding up ok but never measured it for thickness, volume or weight accuracy’s

One important note: Norma has a small flash hole and many 222 dies ship with a standard decapping pin that is going to damage the brass or the stem:

I prefer Lapua but have been using Nosler that I have gotten from shooting their factory ammo, and its not bad but not in the same league Lapua is... I have one new box of Lapua that's been waiting to be used but trying to hold off from using it till "hard times".....

All the coyotes that met their end to my 788 sure were convinced the 222 was a real cartridge!!! I've used that old Remington for years, looks pretty ragged but it still shoots great. Got a 4x12 Leopold on it and it and that cartridge has accounted for quite a few coyotes through thr years
