222 rem & 12 twist barrel

Screamer

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a 40x stainless barrel laying around in .223 12twist. I'm debating on having it rechambered to 222. I know the 222 was designed around a 14 twist barrel. Would like any thoughts on pros & cons of using a 12 twist barrel in this caliber. Thanks

I think it should work just fine. Should handle 40 - 55 grain bullets well and the .222 should show some accuracy gain over the .223 if chambered properly. I just had a .221 built last year with a 1:12 twist Shilen and it shoots 40-50 grain bullets extremely well with the right load combinations. Good Luck

Nothing wrong with it, if i was going to build a .222 i`d use a 12 or 13 twist barrel myself.....

I just built one with a McGowen 1-12 and shoots the 52 smk really well and shoots JLK 60 grainers relatively well.
