picked up a 1-12 twist 224 blank my smith is in the process of putting it together it’s for my 222 what is the heaviest bullet that will stabilize some input would be great thanks Adam

It looks like the 63 grns might be max according to other post as we know all barrel are different this barrel I have is a XCALIBUR

With regard to best BC and one that you could still launch fairly fast from a 222, the 53gr Vmax would be one of your best options.

I agree with B23, I shoot the 53gr VMAX out of a 22PPC with a 12-twist and it is stabilized with great results out to 500 yards. No need to go with heavier bullets with that BC.

My .222 with a 1:12 McGowan barrel shoots the 55 gr Berger match or varmint bullets with superb accuracy.
I have also used 69 gr Sierra Match Kings and gotten good accuracy with 100 yds no key-holing.
Admittedly, I used the top end loads to move the 69s as fast as I could.

I find that you just really have to try them. Example given, I have a 1-in-9 twist 223 that will shoot 62 grain Barnes TTSX bullets excellent, right on out to 300-400 yards. I have another one that is 1-in-12 that will shoot the Nosler Bonded Performance 64 grain bullets just fine at 100, but not the Barnes TTSX. The first rifle doesn't group the 64 grain Nosler bullets too well, but it will put 64 grain Bergers into the same hole, all bullets will touch at 100. Going back to the 1-in-12, it does the same thing with 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.
I have checked the twist rates manually and they are what they are supposed to be.

My 222 1970's BDL stabalized 70 grain speer RN...

But no one but me ever shot that bullet.

And I don't know why I tried
