.222 Questions......

OK....

I`m going to but a reamer and finally build a .222, so i`m looking for some info....

Loaded up a dummy Lapua .222 round......

I`m getting .250-.251 loaded neck diameter.

Do you turn necks on your .222????

What freebore are you running????

I`m going to shoot the 35, 40, 50 and 52 bullets....with the 40`s being ( hopefully ) my primary goal for varmints.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Phil.

Looking for best accuracy, I turn the necks on my Lapua brass and have a .250 neck diameter chamber. If you are a high volume prairie dog shooter, you may want a no-turn .253 neck chamber based on your loaded Lapua brass measurements. Do to the long 222 neck, get a zero free bore reamer.

Got a bunch of singles from Bruno's and mine is about .0127" to .013" at shoulder in neck wall.

More consistent than the br bb.

Necks on mine mesure .0125- .013

Pretty consistent.....

Honestly i was considering a no turn.....

Need to turn the necks on the dasher. Vacation in two weeks.

.014 at shoulder in one quarter with a .252 chamber! .013 at rim .

Good times when I get this figured out. No good dies.

Ya the match zero freebore reamer with 1.5 deg leade angle ends up with .009 freebore. I've posted the drawings around somewhere here. That's what I'd get for the 40s

I'm joining the 222 Rem club. My last build was a slightly modified 222 Rem mag. Had to search far and wide to find brass. Old Rem brass, then necked up 204 Ruger by Norma, then some rare Herter brass. Nosler made a run but problems with case splitting. Since Lapua makes 222 brass I got excited. I am having the reamer made by JGS and sent a print to Whidden for dies. For fun, i'm moving the shoulder forward .018 and going to 30° angle, as well as reducing the taper a little. This little sucker might rival my 223 Ackley. I bought some 46 gr bullets made by a member and sold on the marketplace. I have all the powders for this cartridge and since I have had very good results with LT 32 in the 222 Rem mag as well as with my 6x47, I look forward to trying it here. As always, appreciate any feedback from anybody shooting this cartridge.

.248" loaded neck OD.
52 gr rem or sierra bullets,
4198 imr. LT-32 showing promise.

I went with a .250" neck, zero free bore, 1 deg 30 min leade. I shoot Nosler premium and Lapua brass. I turn necks to a uniform thickness (minimum material removal). I am shooting a Brux 1 in 12 now and have a Krieger 1 in 13 blank waiting to be chambered. Using a Remington 700 4digit trued action, Jewel trigger and a Revolution 3" BR stock.

I have a .250" neck, zero free bore, 1 deg 30 min lead , Lapua brass , new Hart 24" barrel 1:14 . will shoot it first time with the new barrel June 15 . And post how it shoots .
