24.4 gr. imr-4895
rem 7 1/2 primer
factory length of 2.200 oal

update on my Win HV 222

I tested H4895 and some 8208 of both powders the 8208 was most consistent but I just didn't have a large enough window in powder to hold that accuracy like I want. The H4895 had 1 load that shot really well in the .1's but again go up or down .2 grn and that group opened up considerably. So I went back over powders I tested and since I don't have any Benchmark I looked closely at the next in line and that was VV N133 that showed to be more consistent with accuracy node on powder where I prefer. So I took the best loads I had shifted powder around to see how much of a window I really do have and it looks like I'm gonna have settle on 21.5 grns.

Here's what I have

21.5 grns group is .119
21.6 grns group is .177
21.7 grns group is.155
21.8 grns group is .266

Now next node I didn't have as much a window
22.5 grns group is .450
22.6 grns group is .239
22.7 grns group is .007 yes that's right it stacked them in one freaking hole.
22.8 grns group is .073
22.9 grns group is .395

comments are welcomed with feedback.....

Gotta say I'm surprised that 22.9 opened up that much...are you still seating at .010 off?

No I am now at .020 off

I was surprised as well that .1 Grn opened up like it did. If it had been in the .1-.2 range is went with the faster load but since its repeatedly showing groups like that it appears most consistent loads is closer to 3000 fps.

Thanks for this thread, I have a .222 on order and I was wondering about pet loads.

My load data is probably real safe as I'm also using moly coated bullets. So if you use naked bullets anything I posted should not be unsafe but no matter what start lower than my lowest charge posted and work up. I also work these small cases in .2 grn increments folks may say there's not any difference in .1-.2 grns powder but first my groups posted shows there is and chronograph readings also show that there is a difference.

Thanks James for the good advice and tips. I need all the help I can get but on the plus side I'm cautious by nature and all I want to do is shoot a few targets, knock down a couple of groundhogs and then there's that darn muskrat in my pond that has so far eluded me... Anyway I just heard from my gun dealer and I am still 14 weeks out of taking delivery so I am going to use that time for some good research and to buy a chrony. Thanks again for the thread.

Thanks again James for your info and great post. One suggestion you may want to try is comparing your best 2 loads from each node at say 200 yards before discarding the higher node completely. I was out at the range yesterday with the 22.8 gr load at 200 yards and thought it did very well but didn't have anything loaded with the lower node to compare it to so thought that might be interesting.
Thanks again.
