222 mag, and LT32

picked up some LT 32 and am looking to try with 50gr sierra bk in 222m chambering, 12 twist 26"bbl. any body try a similar combo?

All data shows 223 water capacity in the range of 30.4gr, my fired cases are 32.7 gr capacity, a 7%+ increase. Accurate shows no loads for the 222m but does for the 223, been thinking I would start at max 223 and work up towards +5/6% checking for pressure.

bheadboy....I can't answer your question but would really like to know how the LT32 works in your rifle! Sounds like a very good powder to try. :)

I used LT-32 as a replacement for IMR 4198 when the latter wasn't available for my .223/5.56 (Stevens 200).

In my rifle, it is as accurate as IMR 4198, my prior most accurate propellant. I was able to put 5 shots into 0.75 in at 100 yards with both propellants.

LT-32 seemed to be a tad slower than IMR 4198 (behind a 40 gr. Hornady VMax, IMR4198 = 21.5 gr, LT-32 = 24 gr) but the two were equally accurate for me (LT- 32 loads printed ~ 0.25 in to the left of the IMR 4198 loads).

I understand LT-32 to be a reincarnation of the older L-32 (or was it T-32???) powder which was much beloved by target shooters. I liked it well enough that I bought an 8 lb bottle of it.

There's one other nice thing about LT-32: it meters very well. The kernels are very small.

Edit 15Aug2015: Erroneous "LC-32" changed to (correct) "LT-32."

just home from hospital, med test/changed med re heart - things ok now, sooooo

I loaded my first lt32 yesterday afternoon thinking I would shoot this afternoon as the temp has dropped to low 80s -- heavy rain/lighting --oh well

I started with 2% above 223 loads given by Western and laddered up at .3gr steps to 5% as starters using 50gr bks jumping .015. 7 1/2 and .002 shoulder set back.

my fired cases have 7.8% higher water volume than 223.

weather permitting I will post the results.

finally got to shoot some of the LT 32 and Bk in my 222m, 26" 12 twist factory bbl re chambered from 223.

velocity very good 3545fps and sd 12, groups in the low .400's one in the high .300s - no pressure signs

a little fiddling and I think it may get in the .300s consistently.

my 222m has 32.8gr h2o capacity 8% higher than my 223 did. don't know about the 22 ppc capacity.

Bob,

I have been considering LT32 for the 22 PPC. Not derailing your thread, but if anyone from back in the day used T 32 in the 22PPC, I wonder if they have load info for the new powder?

Snert,

no problem, email or call Carol Pilant at Sierra, I think he has some experience with it if not he may know some one who has.
