.222 chamber design?

I talked to dave kiff about the differences in our zero freebore reamers. To be honest some of it was over my head, but yes there can be differences in two zero freebore and 1*30 leade reamers. It depends on what side of the tolerences the reamer is cut on. So the best thing to do is talk to dave kiff and tell him what bullet(s) you want to shoot. That is what I did and my throat is set up perfect fo the 40's, but too short for the 50's. With my reamer .025 freebore would not have hurt.

Here is a quote from my last post. So yes my results are possible. Like the quote says it all depends on what side of the tolerances the reamer is cut on. If it is cut on the short side you will have less of a jump to the lands. After having things explained to me by a reamer maker I understand how this is
possible. Maybe the reamer used on your sako vixen was cut on the long side of the tolerences. So this is why it is best to talk to the reamer maker about the details, bullets you are going and so on.
This is why I like pacific tool and gauge, they will take the time to talk with you, answer any questions and explain things to you. they have helped me a ton and been able to tell me what I need. Everything I have gotten from them has turned out just right. Dave kiff kows his stuff.

Wanted to say, new barrel with 30 rounds through it. I think with more rounds the freebore will increase a little bit, but not a whole lot. This is why I had the reamer cut the way I did, Just perfect for the 40 grainers.

Clatarar,
Let us know how it turns out. Do you have a time frame yet on when it will be done?

Had to throw my calipers out, measured the same bullet i had seated using a friends caliper and it gave me slightly over .245? Somethings off here? We wound up measuring some feeler guages and his were very accurate... mine? :s. Luckily, I've yet to put in the order for my die. What are you guys getting for loaded neck diameters with recent lots of winchester brand brass?

Time-frame.... my smith put in the order for the barrel and the reamer about a month ago. I'm hoping i'll be shooting in June but realistically, July or August.

Any suggestions for a good powder? Stuff only comes up once a year on the ship so I gotta make sure I put in the right order.

.2475 neck with loaded Sierra 50 gr. and Winchester brass. I have used IMR 3031, Ramshot Xterminator, H 335, H 322 all with good success. H4198 would be good with lite bullets (40-45 gr). I am using a .025 fb 250 neck and very happy with it for 50-55 gr bullets. I always run with a .010-015 jump or less. depending on the bullet.

Clatarar, I live in Wisconsin and just had a .222 re-barreled with a 1/14 twist. The plastic tipped bullets don't seem to stabilize very well in the winter. Even the Berger 52 and Sierra 53HP don't shoot well below 20* F. When the temp gets up to 40 they start one-holing again. My next barrel will be a 1/12. Run the numbers on one of the Sg calculators and Sg goes below 1.0 in the colder temps, and accuracy suffers.
