222-223 magazines restrictive???

I'm thinking about doing a 222 but kind of wanted to use the 53 v-max but not down past the the neck for the bearing surface in a 9.5 twist. Every other factory gun I've had to get near the lands is longer than mag length. Wanting an accurate high volume squirrel gun n predators to. Anyone one have any input on magazines, factory or otherwise? I have a savage 16 I'm sure I could convert but I'm about done with factory actions, I don't want to get a bat vr n still be held back by mag length.

222 SAAMI as I recall is 2.130" COL. A 2.260" should certainly allow the 53 Vmax with BT at neck shoulder junction and plenty of room to chase lands.

I think a 222 in a 223 mag would be just about right in this situation. Next comes to reamer selection, brass selection, and neck size.

Opting to run an AICS based detachable bottom metal will allow for using magazine that will accommodate up to 2.500" OAL.
Accurate .223 mags fit 2.325 without modification, and 2.500 after 30 seconds with a Dremel tool.
MDT and AICS polymer mags both allow for ~2.500", out of the box. That's plenty long for what you want to do...

http://www.cdiprecisiongunworks.com/ makes DBM systems for many different rifles, including Savages. You buy their DBM and they'll fit it to your rifle.
If you're going to get a BAT, they are a Rem 700 SA footprint action. So, any Rem 700 SA based DBM system will pair right up to the BAT. CDI would be able to do that, too. Or any competent gunsmith, for that matter...

Good luck & have fun!
