.221 fireball powder ?

I have a CZ fireball, and only have Varget, Benchmark, H 4895 powders. Any load info about these would be welcome. I will be shooting the 50 grain Vmax. Also, if I use the Combined Technology bullets will I have extended shooting sessions over the regular Hornady moly-coated bullets, or is there not much of a difference. Thanks to all that can help.

PM inbound with QL data,

The powders you have are too slow for the 221. For 50g bullets you can't beat RL-7. AA1680 works well too. There is little powder needed and I can plug away all day without the barrel getting excessively hot. My current varmint load is a 50g v-max at 3000fps -- I can get it to 3200 without a pressure problem -- from a 20" barrel. I don't shoot moly so I can't help you there.

Travis,

A good powder for 221 would be H4198. I would start around 16.0 grains and work up slowly. Based on my experience with Benchmark in other cartridges based on the 221, I bet it would work well, but I don't have any loading info. A good place to start is also 16 grains and work up. You might want to give Hodgdon tech support a call. They tend to be very helpful. However, be very careful. I can't find any load data for 221 & Benchmark.

Kory

All my 221 Fireballs love to be fed a diet of Reloader 7 along with a 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, and Remington 7 1/2 primers. All but one will shoot one hole at 100 yards.

My Fireball shoots very well with H135 and N133. But, under a 50 gr. Hornady SX and above CCI BR primer, it loves 17.5 gr. H322.

FWIW. I use Accurate Arms 2230C in all my rounds. .221, .223, 22.250,.308 and 30.06 with real good results.
I just started running some .221 Fireball loads over the Chrony.
XP 100 Rifle, Shilen barrel. Not really paying that much attention. Trying to figure out the printer etc. I was running about 2885 FPS,55 g.FMJ mil.pulled)with junk bullets and 19.5 grains of powder. All five shots could be covered with a dime at 100 yards. :D The ammo hasn't been tuned to the rifle. Even with a full case they don't show any pressure signs. Just loaded up and fired. Still need to work on the seating depth and a good powder load. No telling what it will do with the right load.
