221 Fireball loads

For those of you who have/have had this cartridge AND have tried several loads what are they and HOW good are they ? One rifle will be a Rem.700 and the other a CZ527. I know the shooter determines a lot of the grouping but I'll do my part . PS: 3/4" loads are not what good enough !

My CZ in .221 Fireball likes 18 grains of RL-7 with 40 v-max. I tried H4198 but the RL-7 was more accurate.
Groups no bigger than .6 at 100 yards. I settled on this as I have in the past... damn near wore
barrels out looking for smaller groups. This rifle is my truck gun for occasional coyote while out
and about. Getting about 3000 FPS.

Did you find that primers made a difference ? Did you let the magazine determine what OAL you would use ?

I used remington 71/2 and never checked any other primers. All rounds fit magazine and close enough to lands for me.
I did not get to technical with this rifle as I have stated it's just one I throw in my truck. I am happy with the accuracy
it has produced. However if you were to try some different primers, powders, and bullets I am confident the CZ would
produce some very and tight groups. I get way more fussy with my heavy varmint rifles for sure...most of them will print
groups of about .6 at 200 yards which is quite a bit better than my CZ.

Best to build a load with any given powder, bullet and OAL of that round THEN, as the accuracy gets good, adjust the OAL if you can't reach the lands. Won't take much to find a sweet spot.

I might add that you will want to glass bed the CZ as this would be a big plus to tighten the groups with this rifle.
I went and checked my notes when I worked up the load for my CZ ....the 40 gr. z-max is set at 28 thousands away
from the lands and I was still able to load all rounds in the magazine. This seemed to be the sweet spot for this rifle.
I just couldn't remember earlier. Hope some of this can help.

CCI br4's both 17.7 or 18 grains of IMR 4198 shoot great, 18 grains being a little better.Three shot groups in .2's and .3's at 100 yds. I can't remember for sure, but 300 was something like 1.5 or less. I forget the AOL. I know it jumps a good ways though.

had a bunch including a 40x, xp100 and 700bdl short
all shot well with 7 1/2, 50gr bk, jump .020, bump .002, rem brass, powders of choice 17.5gr 4198 and 19.5gr 2015, in my chambers, the 2015 gave consistent .200out of the 40x and .300 out of others, 4198 very close behind in group size - velocities around 3000, not pushed.

I have a Rem Model I built with a 1:12 twist Shilen barrel. Best powder / bullet combo for me is 15.3 Lil Gun with a Hornady 40 V-Max at 1.920" OAL. Usually runs .4 to .7 for 5 shot groups depending on temperature and range conditions. Again, this is a smithed barrel & chamber so your factory chamber & twist could affect OAL & what your gun prefers. My gun has a #3 taper barrel.
