220 swift

I somewhat agree with CEM. I think there are better choices for a colony varmint removal tool. Tried a couple in the PD towns several years ago and just too much wear and tear and muzzle blast for extended shooting. The recoil on my 91/2 pounder became annoying. I think the sweet spot today for a Swift is a point and shoot coyote rifle. Hold on fur from 4-400 and you’ll probably hit him. Have had at least one since the 70’s and use them on coyotes, crows, feral cats and such. Hard to beat for that application and you always have that
cool factor of owning a Swift. And I think it was P O Ackley who said “no matter how wild a wildcat gets, the Swift still runs with the fastest company” Not bad for a 80+ year old.

Absolutely correct. Been there, got the t-shirt.

I have 2 700 Remington Classics in my safe. One of the rifles a 17 Remington, is the only factory barrel that I ever shot groups in the zeros with. The 25-06 produces decent accuracy and is used yearly for deer by my son. Would say the finish on the metal is not as good as older Remington's, but these rifles for me are tools, not collectors items. Have 220 Swift and have shot many coyotes with it. Got it back in the day, when speed meant something to me.

Question for Barossa 222 : Why did you decide against the Ackley Swift on the second Re-barrel ? I have a Fast Twist Swift that was supposed to be Chambered for the 55 Vmax ( and I even sent a dummy round set-up for what I wanted ). Anyway , it was way short Chambered by a Smith who went out of Business . Darn bullet had to be Seated to the Base of the Case Neck . Now I'm thinking of having that Barrel set-up by a Smith who knows what he is doing for the 53 Vmax in Ackley Swift for low volume shooting at Eastern Woodchucks . I would be interested in your experience with the Ackley Swift .
