220 Swift need a new barrel

I found out today the my 220 Swift Remington is shot out. So, I now I have the age old question: Do I re-barrel it to the 220 Swift or something else? Most of my shooting is either target or prairie dogs. I have a 22-250 that I shoot 50 gr bullets; .223 that shoots 60 gr bullets; 6x45 that shoots 70 gr bullets; 6BR that shoots 105 gr bullets; 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots 140 gr bullets. What would be other caliber options?
I don't want to go any bigger than the 6.5.

220 swift is a great classic cartridge. if youre looking for another 22 with more potential accuracy try the 22br

Well first of all I would never re-barrel my swift into any other cartridge. You're collection covers the bases pretty well so if you want to try something different consider a 20BR. I'd go with a 9twist to shoot 40-55grain bullets. Incredible fun in a prairie dog town and shoot steel to 1000 yards. Way flatter trajectory than anything you are shooting now.

What kind of barrel life does a 22BR have? Would I have to change anything else on my rifle?

I’m running 75s in mine. I believe I’m somewhere around 650 rounds through the gun to now.

No loss in accuracy or velocity up to now. Expecting to have around 1200 rounds of solid performance.

Nothing would need to be changed on your action to make your gun a 22BR.

It is a finicky cartridge to get to feed from a box magazine but other than that they are a dream to shoot.

Shooting a swift this will be a post you make quite often if you actually use it. I cant think of many that will melt a barrel faster than a swift but there are a few. If youre concerned about barrel life get a family car-22br or dasher. If you like the sports car get another swift.

realize the 22br is not a factory chambered cartridge- i dont think so anyway. dies though are not much different in price from std cartridges and you would need to buy 6br brass and neck it down ,which is easy

of coarse if you want another 6mm a 243 or 243AI would work in that action or if youd like another 6.5 the 260 remington would also work.

Since you are already set up for the Swift it makes sense to rebarrel it in 220 Swift. Which may be your best ($) option. Or.....

Something that I've seen a couple rifles done in that caught my attention was 22XC. WD

220 swift is still the king can not imagine life with out mine

concerned about rebuild costs ? IE bolt head swap ? Brass/dies......?

stay with the Swift.....if not concerned......P/dog gun ?

223AI or even 22BR........barrel cost will be the same.....

Never owned a Swift......but no flies on the 223 AI with 8-9 twist & 53 V max

Also a plus with less powder consumption...means longer barrel life with 223 AI

Stay with the swift, BUT...if you just HAVE to change, then I say 22 BR. I did a 12 twist and shoot 52 Bergers....LOVE IT!!!

I think after all the responses for the swift everyone is right I would miss my swift. it has been a great prairie dog round. now I need to find someone to rebarrell it and I was thinking 1-12 twist. I like to shoot 55gr nosler. thank you everyone for the response and reminding me that it is a great round
