220 swift follower in a Rem 700

Having trouble with a rebarreled Remington 700. Went from 22/250 to 220 swift and having trouble trying to chamber rounds. Seems to me the semi rim is catching on the case below.....rim on top falls behind the rim underneath. We have tried a little filing on the 22/250 follower with slight improvement but definitely not good enough. This is a calling rifle so don't want to go single shot. Any help appreciated

When I got my 220 swift from Remington, it had special instructions about loading the magazine from front to rear so that the rims did not override the cartridge below.

I’m sure that seems obvious, but I bring it up because I’m thinking that if your rounds are misfeeding, it may be a weak spring rather than the follower. Give another spring a try.

I fought this a couple years ago with a new 220 swift vsf. I swapped the follower amd possibly the spring out of my 700 vls 6mm and it works great. If I recall it doesn't even matter how I stacked them but I still always stack the top one with the rim in front of the one below it. The 6mm follower is one of the older machined aluminum ones. It sit low enough that the bolt doesnt drag on it either.

Push the shell in and pull it all the way back. Repeat.

They can be finicky with the rim but they will feed very good once you get it figured.
