220 Russian 40°

Anyone ever played with this case, if so how did things go? I got a 3 reamer order in from JGS. 6/220 Russian 40° a 220 Russian 40° and resize reamer. I have the 6/220 done as a fireform barrel so far, but completed the 220 Russian Imp in a new 13" twist. I need to get the die finished and on its way to melonite or heat treat. Any experiences are welcome.
This seems close to the Beggs with exception of shoulder angle.

Did you eliminate most of the body taper, or, simply alter the shoulder angle? If you reduced the body taper, it's essentially a PPCx40*, which should be good.

In Y2K, I acquired a .220RUSSIANx30* shoulder reamer from PTG, and, based upon the reamer print and fired cases, had Neil Jones make one of his FL/Shoulder/Nk bushing dies. The goal was to have capacity equal to the .22 Waldog (222 &1/2 Rem.) - without the case forming. Except for case growth, the Jones die eliminates the, "dreaded click" (primary extraction).

My sole gripe is that, I did not order the reamer with reduced body taper ( I wanted to keep the capacity at a minimum without setting shoulder back) , thus, re-sizing results in constant case length growth and need to trim. I believe that Gene Beggs messed with the Neck : shoulder radius, and his last iterations greatly reduced the case growth issue.

Especially with a properly sized re-size reamer, your concept should prove quite useful. If you retained the body taper, I'd expect the case lengthening to slow, but not, "go away". Capacity wise, you''re right in the .22 Cal. wheelhouse, and your choice of twist should prove excellent with typical 51-53 Gr. BR quality bullets which are based upon the .705" long jacket. RG

I will check my print to verify shoulder diameter. The ppc and 220 Russian gages are different length the Russian being longer by .018" to .020".
Ok, my print states shoulder diameter of .4344". The PPC drawing I just looked up was .431" at the shoulder.
I have a bucket of .705" jackets but no dies to make them. I have 6mm dies, need to see who still makes carbide 22 dies.

I got 20 cases formed, loaded them back with N135 as suggested by a very good UBR shooter. I ended the day with decent results shooting 55gr Sierra Blitzkings .006" ITL. Some targets were .008" ITL. 6 was best. Powder charge was 28.5 gr N135. Fed 205 primer. 3430 fps
