Howdy!
“.....wish someone would, shorten, the "Body" a bit then,"blowout" a .22-250 Rem case with, a 35* shoulder and a .280 - .300 long Neck.}”
“...guess it would be something like a .22XC, 35* ! Anybody doing "that?”
I have wildcatted .35 Remington down to .224” caliber, for a case capacity between that of a stock .22-250; and the .22-250AI.
The 1.920” case oal of the parent .35Rem pre-dates that of the .22Creedmoor, and also the somewhat similar .22-47L; and .22XC.
I retained the .35Rem’s stock shoulder location and shoulder diam.
“ .22-35Rem “ w/ it’s first generation shoulder angle of 26* and 1.920” oal features a neck lg of .250”......greater than one caliber.
Even were the shoulder angle to be sharpened to 35*, neck lg would still not approach .300”. Moreover, comparing the 26* shoulder iteration to a 35*version would show a powder capacity reduction resulting from the shoulder sharpening
I wrote P.O. Ackley to ask his input on my .22-35Remington wildcat.
He responded back saying “..... The .35Remington should make a good .22 caliber cartridge when necked down to take the smaller bullet. “
I took that as a pretty good passing grade on my first wildcat design!
My point:
Ackley was the granddaddy of sharp shoulder wildcat design.
His response letter did not include any negative response concerning my use of an easy-to-form. 26* shoulder angle.
.
.35 Rem feeds and extracts just fine in my Wichita WBR1375 action, whiich features a standard .308 bolt face. Fred Sinclair had outfitted the Wichita w/ an M-16 extractor, and I’ve experienced no extraction problems when using the .35Rem-based wildcat.
.22-35 is 1,000yd- capable for both varmint/target when shot from a 28” barrel, albeit 29” would be a tad more sensible; as regards deliverable energy. In my 28” barrel, I shot 75”A”-Max exclusively. The .250” neck lg never appeared to be negative.
In the first .22-35 barrel I had ( Hart 24” SS 5-groove 1-14 ), the barrel had shot more than 3,400 ends before it ever keyholed (Hornady 55SX).
*** Had I not cleaned the first couple years of its use using an un-coated steel cleaning rod, and worse..... had Cryo done on the barrel when it was well past it’s 1/2 life.... I’m convinced the original 24” 1-14 would have gone @ least 4,000rnds. And... I was shooting WW760/H414 ball over
FED Large Magnum Rifle Match.
I have a different wildcat design in-mind, that would feature a .300” + neck lg, and uses 7X6(4 Brenneke as the parent case.
I’d be happy to share details. Maybe a PM would be appropriate?
