22 ppc CZ527 Calling Rifle...What do you think?

Folks

I have a line on a CZ527 carbine that was 7.62x39 that was nicely converted to 22 ppc. What are your thoughts on this as a calling rifle? Anyone have any experience to share from a similar project?

I like the CZ527 action w the single set trigger. How good does it feel in your hands, barrel length/weight, rate of twist ? Myself, I would have preferred the 6mm PPC, but hey, if it is a smoking deal on price. Go for it. I converted one to a 25/45 sharps. mike in ct

I have a Stiller Predator action 22PPC with a 12-twist Pac-Nor barrel the shoots the Hornady 53gn V-Max bullets at 3400fps. I use Norma USA brass to keep it simple, it is very accurate.

If the price is right that would be a nice little round with lots of accuracy potential. I just bought a howa mini in 6.5 creed to convert to 20 PPC for the same purpose.

It should work just fine, there are still a few of us killing a lot of coyotes with a 222 Rem, another that got it's reputation on the benchrest and became a great varmint/predator round.

I’ve had a bunch of CZ’s and for the most part have been impressed with the action. Most have been surprisingly accurate, although I learned through experience it is not the action for hot loads. I’ve been somewhat surprised at the cost of brass, and would be interested in really knowing the most affordable options...

I had a Sako a1 Repeater built years ago, in 22 ppc. It shot fabulous as you could imagine. I killed a bunch of coyotes with it loaded with WC844 and the 50g Sierra lead tip blitz and the 55g Lead tip blitz.

If you can find any WC844, get it along with those Lead tip sierra blitz, you will not be unhappy that you did in terms of accuracy and performance on game. aa2015 will also be a great performer along with LT32.

Thanks for the tips...I have aa2015 and a supply of the blitz bullets too...

The interesting thing is that it looks to have originally been a CZ527 carbine...shorter barrel...iron sights...a shorter length of pull stock.

Whoever did the barrel matched the contour, and put the iron sights back on...well...at least the front sight...the barrel looks to be about 18” and I’ll need to check, but I think it may be a 9 twist...at least that is what I’m kinda hoping. The original owner had some handloads and the one I broke down had a 55 Barnes TSX over what looks to be about 27 grains of Benchmark.

Short and handy...kinda cute.

I did one similar on a Howa Mini that was a 7.62x39 but rebarreled it in 22 Grendel. Cheaper and more choices for brass, easy 3500 with 53gr Vmax and use the same PPC dies. Light 5.5lb calling rifle with a 22” barrel.

It used to be the only rifle you could get from CZ in 7.62X39 was the carbine. I have one I also converted to 6.5 Grendel. Nice little rifles, but for various reasons I do prefer the Howa mini. The action is smoother, feeds great, and the trigger is very good. The set trigger on the CZ isn't bad, but if you want a good standard trigger pull you have to adjust the set feature out of it.

Not to derail the thread, but how do you like the 2-stage trigger on the Howa?

I think they’re very good for a factory trigger. Some are crisper than others and seem to adjust better, others need a little tinkering. I’ve replaced the sear spring (adjustable one) with a lighter spring in a few and it seems to help the few that don’t adjust to my liking, probably around 2 1/2lbs or so.
