22 Nosler updated velocities

Finally got around to replacing my chronograph. Looks like out of my Wilson Combat I’m averaging just over 3400fps with the factory 55g ballistic tip. That 300-400fps is the difference with coyote hunting. Only had one to run 50yds or so before going down. The other 15 folded in their tracks. All were shot at 170 yards or closer. With my .223 (factory 55grain ballistic tips) I would always have a few each season that would run a bit before going down. That extra speed is definitely a game changer. Even shot one black yote which was pretty cool

I played with mine in the wind a bit last week, last prairie dog hunt of the year I imagine.
Mine is a bolt rig, Howa mini. We have a love hate relationship. The oryx chassis leaves a lot to be desired for me.
It ticks me off at home, but almost impresses me in the field, go figure. I have shot 40-75 grain bullets at home with nothing to talk about. Suppose I need to show it some attention. First thing I will address is the trigger.

I shoot all 24" barrels out of the .22 Nosler - and the factory loads do all they say with those barrels (A/R's.) Here is a new bolt gun for which I'm getting ready to bed the action. Bat action, a few fresh Krieger 1-8" twist 26" tubes smithed by Chesebro rifles. Mark does good work! Really looking forward to see what kind of velocity I can get from this rig. Nice thing about the .22 Nosler is that the barrel remains almost as cool as a .223.

I know mark fairly well, good work.
He's done several builds for me.
When you see him tell him the guy from Ford is very content with the 270-08

My first Nosler M48 Handgun is chambered in 6.5CM. I was wanting a second M48 Nosler Handgun as a varmint rig. The Nosler M48 Handgun is not shown to be chambered in 223 Rem, or any other .224 except the 22 Nosler. That is unless you have connections.

I did manage to locate a new and unfired M48 Handgun in 22 Nosler on Gun Broker. This was a custom M48 NCH with Fluted Barrel, Harrell's 4 Gill Muzzle Brake and a different bolt than my 6.5CM came with. It was ordered with an UGLY White Barrel & Action (Not in the White, Bright White), and a Bright Orange Chassis. UGLY. The seller told me the original owner had it color matched to some Exotic Sports Car he owned and was very proud of. It was from an estate. My earlier comment about having connections. They had a second M48 for sale that was not in a listed Chambering. The original owner had connections.

My first stop before bidding on it was to go by Hunts Long Range to see if he could refinish it back to a respectable color combination, and for how much money. He could make it look good again, so I bid on it. Well I got it well worth the money, as no one else wanted the Ugly outfit either. A week or two after getting it, the Gunsmith had it looking respectable. Black Barrel & Action with a Three Color Camo finish on the chassis. That cost me even more money as I ended up having the same three color camo finish done on the Plain Jane Chassis on the 6.5CM M48.

Mark Hampton did an article on a 22 Nosler M48 Handgun for I believe American Handgunner. That article put the M48 handgun on the map for me. I took the M48 over to his house for a look after getting it refinished. I ended up leaving with a couple Box's of factory 22 Nosler Ammunition to get it up and going.

For Glass, I decided on a new Weaver Classic Extreme 8-32X-50mm Scope for it. The 8-32X Classic Extreme Scope has a 30mm Tube, Duplex Reticle, and Covered Target Knobs. After shooting it a little I was hooked. It is an absolute Tack Driver. On a very good day, I shot a 600 yard 3 shot group with it that was 3-5/8 Inch. I was going to shoot 5 shots, however I quit while I was ahead. I am not sure now if I was shooting the factory ammunition of my reloads after my brass came in.
This was off a Harris Bench Rest Swivel Bipod. I had a Squeeze Bag under the butt. I was shooting on the Hi-Power Range at the Club off a Concrete Bench. The scope was probably turned up to 32X. I took a picture of the group as no one would have believed I shot a group like that with a handgun.

The 22 Nosler has had some bad press over the years. The bad press did not come from me. My 22 Nosler M48 is Accurate, Easy on Brass, and is way ahead of a 223 handgun.
I Like It!

I will help revive this old thread. Just got 300 22Noslers prepped and primed. I am up in the air about what to load, 40’s or 60’s. Open to thoughts on powder, leaning towards CFE223 just to keep it simple.
