I have a savage model 93 heavy barrel with a 20.75 inch barrel. I'm getting 3/4-1" groups at 100yds.Is this bad.I'm using CCI TNT hollow points. These give the best accuracy of all and safety with out bouncing off the rocks.
That is great accuracy for a 22 mag, and shows what a super accurate rifle the Savage 93 is.
The only way you are going to get better accuracy is to switch to the .17 HMR That is because it is inherently a more accurate cartridge.
One day 20 months ago, I was sighting in my Savage 93 in .17 HMR in at 100 yards. I had it sighted in to hit 1 1/2 inch high, but decided to change it to hit dead on at 100. Sunny day, with totally calm air. No wind at all.
First shot hit exactly high, where it had been before. I adjusted my Sightron down, and the next shot hit dead center on the target!
But there was a pesky tiny fly buzzing around my target, and landing on it. It was starting to annoy me greatly. So I decided to go FLY HUNTING! Well, guess what? On my first attempt, the fly is no where to be seen. And where he had been, is a tiny .17 caliber hole.
When I later check the target, I see fly guts splattered all around the hole. And a gooey piece of liquified fly, which landed a few inches up on the target.
Here is a photo of the target for you to see:
Anyway, get another 93 in .17 HMR You will not regret it!
