I know what your saying. Totally different at 100.If you shoot a .22mag @ 50 yards it'll make you think it's great. Stretch it out to 100 or more and it'll drive you crazy, or such has been my experience.
I have had owned several 22 magnum rifles, CZ, Marlin and Savage. All were bedded, free floated, and trigger work. I even weight sorted ammo but it was a wasted effort. I could never get the accuracy at 100 yards. If you shoot a .22mag @ 50 yards it'll make you think it's great. Stretch it out to 100 or more and it'll drive you crazy, or such has been my experience.
I had a factory SS bull barrel Savage that liked CCI Maxi Mags but it was still over an inch @ 100 yards.
I decided the price and availability of ammunition wasn't worth it and sold it.
Also had a Win lever action in .22 Mag. Even with a scope it disappointed me too often and I sold it also.
I have no plans to own any more.
That has been my experience as well. I've never been fortunate enough to own a super-accurate .22 Magnum. This is one rimfire caliber that seems to benefit the most from trying different ammo. Can go from pretty bad or so-so to not too bad.The internet and gunshops are full of guys with 22 magnums that shoot one hole at 100 yards, but you know how that goes. I've owned Anschutz, CZ, Kimber, and a pile of others in 22 WMR and I'm generally thrilled with a rifle that will average 1 1/2" at 100 yards. I've actually found very few that will do that. That's "average", not that fluke group that we all like to get and carry around in our wallets.
