ThanksApparently the Wasp chamber has a 1.5 deg leade angle.

The otherwise similar SAAMI Match chamber has a 5 deg angle.
I hope there not being shot in sanctioned ARA factory class as that is not allowed. no lapping is allowed; this came from Dawn and Brandon.I hear a few reports that some skilled gunsmiths have lapped CZ barrels, with a taper at the muzzle, with good results.
Of course not. Silly to even consider such a thing. Because it would be so easy to tell if a barrel had been lapped. Wouldn't it?I hope there not being shot in sanctioned ARA factory class as that is not allowed. no lapping is allowed; this came from Dawn and Brandon.
Quote, only recrowning is allowed for work on the barrel.

Well hopefully shooters who do shoot ARA have a conscious and wouldn't think of doing that.Of course not. Silly to even consider such a thing. Because it would be so easy to tell if a barrel had been lapped. Wouldn't it?
Yeah, they would. One gunsmith (not Calfee) offered to do it for me just for kicks, but I don't shoot factory. However, I do know people who do shoot factory and lapping is apparently fairly widespread. ARA shooters are just people and don't take an oath of honor. But now, if you shoot factory, you have to sign something saying your rifle complies with all rules or something like that. That should do it.Well hopefully shooters who do shoot ARA have a conscious and wouldn't think of doing that.
question would be would any respectable gunsmith lap a barrel knowing it would be used in sanctioned ARA
I like to think we have better people than that among the RFBR crowd those especially who shoot ARA

Why do I get the feeling that competition shooting is SO akin to NASCAR?Yeah, they would. One gunsmith (not Calfee) offered to do it for me just for kicks, but I don't shoot factory. You can pick up brass from a competitor --look at it and see if maybe they are using a modified firing pin--which is illegal simple to do---you can casually look and see if the breech has been worked indicating a possible set back and rechambering but short of causing a stink and whipping out a bore scope to check--lapping is not detectable from the outside by just being observantWell hopefully shooters who do shoot ARA have a conscious and wouldn't think of doing that.

Not all competitive shooting, just those competions with a lot of rules. The more rules, the more room to manipulate. That's why I shoot unlimited in ARA or Heavy Outlaw in ABRA. Not a great deal of room to manipulate the rules, at least in relation to equipment. Why do I get the feeling that competition shooting is SO akin to NASCAR?
It's only cheating if you can prove it.
Nice.
Winner might be the slickest cheater. Not the best shooter.
Yet another 'sport' devoid of integrity. And I'm the fool for thinking otherwise.
People are just simply nasty as a whole.
So. You just confirmed my suspicions. Not all competitive shooting, just those competions with a lot of rules. The more rules, the more room to manipulate. My thoughts exactly. Why do I get the feeling that competition shooting is SO akin to NASCAR?

I agree allow to make changes, but something not requiring a skill above simple hand tools.I have not been an eye witness to any lapping or other illegal modifications to factory class rifles. I'm just going on what shooters (ARA included) have told me about thier own rifles. So, let's say it is a widespread practice. Then if you want to compete at a high level you about need to do that too. Let's say it's not a widespread practice, then what would a lot of people do if they believed it to be widespread. It snowballs from there.
It's something that somebody could do to a factory rifle just to make it shoot better. Just allow it and let the shooter decide.
