22 Hornet brass preference

Mine is a savage model 25 walking var-minter...I use 13.5 grains of lil-gun and the 35 grain v-max...Winchester brass.
Getting a bit over 3050fps. Seems this is the only bullet it likes. Funny thing though ...I started out using
small pistol primers but when I tried small rifle primers I stopped getting flyers and groups tightened
up more....This rifle was at first frustrating but fun to figure out how to make it shoot. I trim mine to about
1.395 with no crimp. I tried crimping and no crimping...made no difference. I do load all of mine to just fit
the magazine. Good to about 200 yards then drops perty quick. I put a 4.5x14 nikon on mine which is more
than adequate. Love going out kneeling, sitting, and just throw over the hood and shoot. Fun to just get
away from the bench shooting for a bit now and then. :) I have sent sage rats more than 6 feet in the air
a time or too. :D

K-hornet here. I have used Winchester mostly, and though Lil gun gets velocity, it REALLY tends to spike odd pressures. I switched to 1680 and Remington primers, 40 grain Vamx.

If I were to do another little cartridge it would be a VT or 221. Not sure how I got the Khornet after having a Ruger 77 hornet, a rifle that remains the dubious distinction of the worst rifle I ever owned (accuracy) except a sorry trapdoor that once graced my safe.

However, the K is not bad, considering.

Hey guys minimum case length for 22 hornet is 1.393. Max is 1.403 my cases are 1.405-6-7. Should i trim to max length or a thou less.
Max cz mag length seems to be 1.775. What the correct way??
This is kind of an open question if you do not know the exact length of your particular chamber. The specs listed in reloading manuals are SAAMI numbers based on having a chamber cut to minimum standards. I have not measured the chamber length on my 22 Hornet, but I have for my 94 Win in 30-30 and my 1917 Enfield in 30-06. Both have chambers much longer than SAAMI minimum and I don't worry about trimming brass except to square up the case mouth. If you have a lathe and basic machining skills, it's fairly easy to make a chamber length measuring tool.
