22 Dasher questions

I currently have a 6 dasher that i use for varmint and deer hunting. I'm using the berger VLD hunting bullet and it runs about 2800 FPS.

What I'd like to do is go to a 22 dasher, 53gr bullet and a 12 twist barrel. My target speed is 3500 fps. Reason is its alot flatter shooting round. We typically hunt with lights and there isnt time to get a range.

Has anyone tried this same combo? Or close to it?

Thanks

I went through the 22 Dasher phase several years ago, and built two of them for calling coyotes.

Fantastic round and deadly on coyotes with 40 grain Ballistics Tips at 4200.

Opposite of you, I started with the 22 version, sold those, and went to the 6 instead with 8 twists, so I could shoot the bigger bullets.

I got less enamored of the round when I trashed a prairie dog barrel in well under 1900 rounds. Everything turned into a 6 Dasher after that.

Personally, I'd pursue the lighter bullets in your 6 Dasher first, you may be surprised. The 87 VLD is worthy of a look, and should be able to get to 31-3200 in the Dasher depending on barrel length. I was running those at 3000 in my AR in 6 ARC.

I'd also give 70 BT's or BK's a go as well before committing to a new barrel.

Ive tried a 68 gr flat bottom bullet from hornady and it wasnt very accurate and the velocity was on 3100. I start doing all my own machining here pretty quick so the only cost is the barrel, reamer.
