I shoot a match at 200,300,385 and 500 meters. The targets are steel squares approx 1-1/2 moa, suspended on firehose straps. Any hit on steel counts, so power isn't a factor. Tempted to build either a 22 br or 22 Dasher for just this match. ANY advice, opinions and technical help would be great. Build will be on a Savage target 12 action, 26" barrel, hoping to shoot Berger 85.5gr hybrids. Shooting is done off bench, front rest and rear bag. Wind is "normally" mild, 2-6 mph from 9-11. My advice would be to go with the 22 BR ackley. It's much more forgiving on freebore Which is more of an issue on the 22 stuff. The neck is twice as long on a 22 BR Ackley. Check out the 22BR ackley thread in the 22 forum My customers have absolutely loved it since I got the reamer. I can make you a large shank barrel per your specs and that's actually what I would recommend It's basically the same nodes and it's a lot easier.

Ok, so it's between the 22 br and 22bra..(bbl life).does anyone have average velocities using 85.5 or 88gr bullets out of 26". Bbl? Also, what is the brass forming procedure? False neck, or jam and shoot ? I have 6mm Lapua brass (new) to neck down, would a partial neck size to 22 then fireform? For 22bra you size and pull the trigger.
My initial tests with fire-forming 90s I went all the way up beyond 3000 but the best fire-forming nodes were about 2850.
I would say you should be able to get 3000 very easily

No the ackley does not require any kind of fall shoulder or anything like that The headspace is set for a tiny bit of crush You shut the bolt on the case and pull the trigger and that's it

I did load development on a 22 Dasher with 80.5 Berger Fullbore bullets. I just took a Chargemaster and arbor to the range.
I had some fireformed brass already, so I did I seating depth test from .08 in to .016 off .004 at a time. .004 and .008 off both shot a nice little knot so I did the powder work .004 off.
In the next 30 minutes, I shot a .029 3 shot group, a .100 3 shot group and two sub .15 5 shot groups with the same charge weight. I figured that chicken was cooked…. I offered the owner $2,000 more than his investment but he wasn’t interested. Not sure where that rifle is today, but it’s a great example of what a 22 dasher can do.

I shot a 22BRI for a little over a year with 88 elds. I had a 30" tube and think I was in the 3050 range though I cant remember for sure. IF you are special ordering a barrel I would suggest not going with a 7 twist and running something in the 7.5 range to keep below 300K rpm. As mentioned above I would also highly consider the .219 bore.
My rifle was accurate and minimal recoil with a brake. Every one of the fast twist rifles eventually started popping bullets in flight when the barrel wore. The .219 lasted the longest.
Depending on how fast you shoot a stri g of shots and how often will make a big difference in barrel life before you start losing bullets. Keep the heat off. 10 to 12 stages of 10-12 rounds with a barrel that never cooled in between stages yeilded north ot 2000 rounds before it started popping bullets in flight.

I believe that this platform is "inherently" accurate (6br). I have 2 Norma Dasher, and one straight Dasher...had thought about the 6br, but with components being as they are, 22 makes sense. The 22 Dasher seems to be hard on bbl life, why I'm leaning toward br/bra....but, I will keep an open mind. rsbhunter
