22 Creedmoor Powder advice

Hi ,
I'm awaiting my 22 Creedmoor build , sometime in the next 2 months . The barrel will be 26" , 1 in 7.5 twist and standard SAAMI chamber dimensions.
I'm hoping for powder advice , I've already done a search on the forum.
I've already acquired Gunwerks brass and 80 grain ELD-M bullets.
Running GRT suggests Ramshot Magnum would be near optimal. At this stage I'm unable to enter case volumes, so using the on-board values . Magnum gives a high %case fill and good velocities . Has anyone experience with this combo' and will it give good accuracy.
Other available powders are VV and RS I already have 62 and 60 .
Powder choice is a little poor over here , we can pretty much discount any Alliant labelled powders and supply of others can be sketchy.

That's a whole lot of twist for those bullets in that cartridge.

My riflesmith wanted me to go 1 in 7 , after reading your posts on the 22XC thought the 1 in 7.5 was a good compromise giving me a little wiggle room . I'm truly not planning on really pushing velocities to the limit .

Fox Tales -

Howdy !

My wildcat “ .22-35 Remington “ has case capacity of 49.4gr H20.
Shooting from a 28” SS 1-8 K & P 5 groove, my most accurate load was 40.5gr
AA3100 and FED Large Rifle Match under Hornady 75 “ A”- Max.
This load gave 3,420 fps and great accuracy. Switch in load to FED Large Magnum Rifle Match gave 3,500fps even, with a slight opening up of groups.
FWIW- Ramshot “ Hunter “ is rated right next to AA3100 in “ burn rate “ on Hodgdon’s burn rate chart.

IMHO -
You could try VV160, or VV560. VV 560 is intended for use with “ heavy for calibre “ bullets, which ( I think ) 80grain .224” cal bullets are. I tried VV560 under the 75 “ A”- Max…. and found accuracy not up to my expectations.

Even if you could get ahold of some, my sense of it is H4831 would be @ a velocity deficit in .224” cal… your case capacity…..and 26” barrel length.
IMHO - While I have not shot any, VV165 might be a little too slow on “ burn rate “; for your needs ( IMHO ).

I do whole heartedly suggest you try FED Large Rifle Magnum Match primers
( GM215M ) if you can. These have worked very well for me in my .22-35 wildcat, whether shooting 55SX bullets propelled by WW760 powder; from a 24” 1-14….
our shooting the 75 “ A”-Max from a 28” 1-8.

Best of luck in your endeavors,

With regards,
357Mag

I would stay under 3400 fps so they don't pop.

Best choice is anything like h4350.

Target velocities are 3250 fps , there about , I rarely run hot loads .

H4350 is no longer available over here as it's not REACH compliant.

I have data for RS62 but the case fill could be better .

Reloader 26 is the cream of the crop but nearly impossible to get your hands on. I've used 4350 and found it pressured out before it made it to the top accuracy node. VV N-160 will work but it is right on the edge of pressure to get to the node. I think you will find that N-150 is too fast. Which leaves the absolute twin to RL26 and that is VV N-560. 550 is a stellar performer with regards to velocity and accuracy. I have several jugs of it for that reason.

7.5 is fine, won’t cause problems.

Something in the H4350 range would probably be best. Should be able to run them 3400 with ease and easily a safe load.

Fun cartridge for sure.

Don’t be afraid to try the 85.5 Berger either.

How close is N550 to N560 ? N560 seems to be the ticket in my rifle with the 69s

I haven’t shot any of the 550 so I can’t offer any help on that one. The 560 that I have is considerably slower than 160. I shoot the 560 with the 69 Scenar and it’s a good fit. With regards to a burn rate chart, I’ve seen many examples of quoted burn rates that are way off. RL 26 for example is rated faster than 160 on some of them. It is not. Also powders that are listed right next to each other on the chart may have significant ly different burn rates. The VV powders tend to have large differences in burn rate jumps in a series of powder. Especially in the slower burn rated powders. I tested the 100 series powders and 160 was the only one that I ended up shooting. 150 would pressure out before it got to the best node, and 165 was so slow I couldn’t get enough of it in the case to get the correct velocity. Same can be said for the 500 series in my experience.

For VV powders -
N555/N150 for 55-69 gr
N560/N160 for 75-80 gr
N565 for 90-95 gr

N560 was the ticket for me with 80 ELDs. N565 and H1000 was a bit too slow burning.

For reference, I have shot 80 ELDX and Nosler 64 BSB bonded bullets as my primary projectiles. During load development, I tried the following powders:
H4350, N555, N560, H1000, Superformance, and Ramshot Magnum.

With 64's, H4350 was the ticket.
With 80's, N560 surpassed all others for good accuracy and no pressure signs with good velocity (3250 fps for a moderate load).

I do have some N160 that I would like to try, but haven't done so yet.

Thanks guys , the 22 Creedmoor isn't a widely shot cartridge over here . So your help is very much appreciated.
It's good to see VV powders giving decent accuracy, as that is available locally.

@smschulz , why the angry emoji ?

don't listen to someone who does not have the same gun and cartridge as you are asking about
a 223 is no where near a 22 Creedmoor
I use a bunch of Superformance and H4831 in my 22 Creedmoor with a 7 twist
I have used alot of different powders but those are the 2, I can recall at the moment
never had any issues with bullets just need to tailer you loads
