Powder for .22-250

I've been reloading my .22-250 with CFE223 for about 300 rounds now and I'm happy with the results.
Understand I just plink with this thing with this load, but it pretty much hammers to 325 yards.

That is one great shooting #1!!
I fell in love with #1s in the late '80s and picked up my first one in the 90's. I have owned quite a few over the years (all #1Bs except a .220 Swift in the Varmint version) ranging from .223 to 30-06 and have always gotten them to shoot very well with a combination of judicious accurizing (bedding, trigger work and such) and finding the favored load...sometimes the hardest job! I'm finally down to just two (a .280 and the .22-250 mentioned). My .22-250 is a 70s manufactured rifle with the original barrel. It's getting a little worn and a small amount of fire-cracking is evident, but the old girl still shoots with its favorite load.

H380 is my go-to with lighter bullets in a .22-.250 AI. RL-15 does a good job, too.

If Vihtavouri powders are your thing, N-150 should do the trick.

Howdy !

+1 on what Odie said.

WW760 ( H414 same stuff ) works great in .22-250, 22-26" barrels. I prefer FED Large Magnum Riflen Match ( GM-215M )
when shooting WW60. This combo used w/ Hornady 55SX for shooting groundhog.

A 1-14 twist barrel would handle 50 - 60 gr bullets readily, as-long-as the 60s are < .750" long. * With your 1-12 twist barrel, you can go a bit heavier still on bullet wt, for example Hornady's 62gr ELd- VT; if so desired.

That's the exact magic load I shot in the 90s. 40.5 w760 and fed 215. 3850 fps Nosler Ballistic Tip. Basically fill the case and stick in the bullet.

Back when Remington made the 22-250 "legitimate" and 4895 was available and inexpensive (less than $2/lb) my load was 36.5 grains with a 50 or 52 grain Sierra. This load is no more, the powder has changed. It took me about forty years to shoot the barrel out of it. That 700, with a 2.5 to 8 Bausch and Lomb scope was a real shooter. Good memories!!!

Put an old factory barrel on my XR100 action and torqued it down and checked headspace (OK). Pulled out some cfe223 and started up the ladder. Getting pretty warm on the loads, primers starting to flatten (WW) but hit 39 gr with the 53 vmax and boy the groups shrunk. Velocity 3909fps. About 45 degrees out. Made it for clay pigeon matches at the club (25 degrees and 30mph winds are tough), so won't shoot it when its warm out
