22 Creedmoor and Re#16 &17

I use RL16 in my 6 Creed and 20-250 it is nearly identical to H4350. It's not super speedy but it shoots extremely well, is very temp stable and unlike RL17 is predictable.

Have you worked with RL17 much before? My experience with 17 is it generally produces very good velocities and tends to shoot well but it has certain quirks you want to be mindful of if you haven't used it much. What I found with it was it didn't give much warning with regard to pressure during load development. It would go along and let you increase powder charge and show no real warning signs of pressure until it did and when I'd reached that point it wasn't subtle about it and it gave all the signs all at once.

They'll both probably work well for you but I'd bet RL17 will be a good 100fps faster then 16 which isn't really a lot but RL16 will definitely be more predictable and temp stable. RL16 and H4350 may not give the fastest velocities but they're both great powders and shine in other areas that can be more important.

My 22-250 has a 18in. Brux 12tw and it likes RL17 and 53gr Vmax really well.

I use Reloader 16 in my 22 Creedmoor with Hornady 75 gr ELD Match bullets.
my powder charge is 40.2 gr at 3436 fps with 26" barrel. This is an accuracy load not top velocity load.
I have been very pleased with this powder.
Not loading for competition but Prairies Dogs.

That's very interesting I have 2 lbs of Re#22,what is your load ? Were the SDs low
Iron workers-

Howdy !

FWIW -

- From what I have read, RL-22 “ burns “ hotter than many of the other powders; and would likely be a bit harder on barrel life as a result ( IMHO ). Additionally, RL-22 is not touted as being “ temperature stable “.

- While not a high capacity .224” cal case, in my “ DEEP 6 “ wildcat ( case capacity
51.2gr H2O ), I found could safely shoot the same charge grain wt of RL-23… as I did
using RL-22; under 6mm bullets of 87 -95gr. I was also using FED Large Magnum Rifle Match primers for all loads. The case was very nearly full when shooting these powders, which was also the point where best accuracy was obtained. RL-23 has the additional benefit of being temp stable.

I could completely fill the case and have safe pressures + great accuracy… when shooting IMR7828 along w/ FED GM215M under 85-107gr 6mm bullets; however…
MV was lower than what RL-22 provided.

In my 28” 1-8 rifle barrel chambered in my “ .22-35 Remington “ wildcat ( case capacity 49.4gr H2O ), best accuracy along w/ safe pressures was obtained shooting Hornady
75 “A”-Max over 40.5gr AA3100; along w/ FED LR Match. AA3100 gave better accuracy than either VV160 or VV560 loads did when propelling the 75 “A”-Max, no matter what primer was tried.

Pic shows level of DEEP 6 case fill, when max safe pressure was reached; when testing
RL-23, -25, and -26 + FED GM215M; under Sierra 95T-MK. Note similar powder columne heights.

I apologize for pic being upside down !

With regards,
