You'll want an 8tw and as for barrel length when you order, talk to the barrel company and tell them the finished length you want and they'll advise you on what length to order.I want to build a 22 creed . Would like the barel to finish at 27 1/2 . How long of a barel do I need to order? And what twist to shoot 75 gr and above bullets?
Actually you'll want a 6.5-7t if he's looking to shoot most bullets above 75sYou'll want an 8tw and as for barrel length when you order, talk to the barrel company and tell them the finished length you want and they'll advise you on what length to order.
You want about 2 inches over finished length normally.
Your action threads will take up about 1 inch + and if you want a threaded end
or just a target crown. 2 inches will give you a little cushion. A couple more inches ( 3-4 over)will not
cost you much compared to the whole barrel and chamber job.
I shot 22 creed and a 7 tw. Lasted about 400 rounds before it started to grenade jackets. ( multiple bullet companies)
If it's a hunting rifle, and your not going to shoot it much then a 7 tw might last you.
I would go 7.5 tw for the 88-95g bullets, should stabilize them for plinking.
The new Berger 85.5g are suppose to be good in a 8 tw.
Would not build a 22 creed for PRS or competition. Too many rounds down the barrel to
stabilize the longer heavier bullets for 1000yd. + shooting.
The 22 creed sounds great, but is on the edge of practicality.
Too much powder going into to small a hole (overbore) and trying to stabilize a very long
thin bullet. You don't see a lot of people building a second or third one.
22x47 or 22 br or a case with less powder is more reasonable and will still shoot the
heavier 22 cal. bullets @3000+ with better barrel life.
Just my 2+ cents take it or leave it.
I have a Krieger 8tw on my 224 Terminator shooting the 80gr ELD-M 3650fps. My base elevation is only 1800ft and I wouldn't want anything faster than an 8tw. Maybe if you are going to shoot the extreme heaviest for caliber bullets you'd want something a little faster than an 8tw but I'm not sure those extreme heavies were meant to be shot in things with higher velocities. I talked to Sierra about their 95gr SMK right after it was released and they told me it was meant for twist rates at 223 velocities, not for things that would launch them much faster. So a good compromise was to go 8tw and shoot the 80's, I'm sure I could shoot the 88's from my 8tw as well but have no real interest in them, yet. lolI went with a 1:8 for my 22 Creedmoor and it shoots 80 gr. Hornady's perfect at 3511 fps.
Same here, except I started seeing pressure signs at 3508fps with 77's. Mine really likes 3400 - 3440fps.I went with a 1:8 for my 22 Creedmoor and it shoots 80 gr. Hornady's perfect at 3511 fps.
ever notice the difference of a 22 creed and a 22/250 improved, not much.
And I'm certain it will shoot extremely well for you. Kevin is a good guy and builds a very fine rifle, he built a gun for me a few years ago.i Went with a 8 twist 24” Brux #2. Kevin Cram is building it. Should be done in May. Can’t wait
That may be, but for some (I'm not one) the convenience of having premium quality head stamped brass "off the shelf" is a big consideration.ever notice the difference of a 22 creed and a 22/250 improved, not much.
The 22-250AI may have a very tiny bit more case capacity over the 22 CM, but for me, I'd gladly trade a few fps for brass that is nearly ready to go right out of the box. That may be, but for some (I'm not one) the convenience of having premium quality head stamped brass "off the shelf" is a big consideration.
Nice, show photos when completed! This cartridge sounds like fun and easy to load for!I want to build a 22 creed."
