22 creed

I want to build a 22 creed . Would like the barel to finish at 27 1/2 . How long of a barel do I need to order? And what twist to shoot 75 gr and above bullets?

You'll want an 8tw and as for barrel length when you order, talk to the barrel company and tell them the finished length you want and they'll advise you on what length to order.

Actually you'll want a 6.5-7t if he's looking to shoot most bullets above 75s

I have 7 twist and have shot 88 Gr Eld's, 85.5 bergers and some 73 Hornady. They all shoot well and haven't had any not make it to the the target. I have some 90 A-tips i just got but haven't loaded yet.

You want about 2 inches over finished length normally.
Your action threads will take up about 1 inch + and if you want a threaded end
or just a target crown. 2 inches will give you a little cushion. A couple more inches ( 3-4 over)will not
cost you much compared to the whole barrel and chamber job.
I shot 22 creed and a 7 tw. Lasted about 400 rounds before it started to grenade jackets. ( multiple bullet companies)
If it's a hunting rifle, and your not going to shoot it much then a 7 tw might last you.
I would go 7.5 tw for the 88-95g bullets, should stabilize them for plinking.
The new Berger 85.5g are suppose to be good in a 8 tw.
Would not build a 22 creed for PRS or competition. Too many rounds down the barrel to
stabilize the longer heavier bullets for 1000yd. + shooting.
The 22 creed sounds great, but is on the edge of practicality.
Too much powder going into to small a hole (overbore) and trying to stabilize a very long
thin bullet. You don't see a lot of people building a second or third one.
22x47 or 22 br or a case with less powder is more reasonable and will still shoot the
heavier 22 cal. bullets @3000+ with better barrel life.
Just my 2+ cents take it or leave it.

Rings so true. I just pulled my 22 Creed barrel with 800 rounds and am not planning to build another.

@Shootin25 I wondered how yours was doing, now I know.
To make a 22 creed worth it's weight, you have to push it to 3200 fps+
Then the barrel life is really short. I noticed fire cracking at the 200+ round count.
I have a 6x47 and use a similar or higher BC bullet as the 22 creed and it runs close to 3100fps
and at 400 rounds the barrel is barely used. So the 22 creed is more of an experiment. Glad I did it and learned
a few things in the process, as I wouldn't do it again.

I went with a 1:8 for my 22 Creedmoor and it shoots 80 gr. Hornady's perfect at 3511 fps.
I have a Krieger 8tw on my 224 Terminator shooting the 80gr ELD-M 3650fps. My base elevation is only 1800ft and I wouldn't want anything faster than an 8tw. Maybe if you are going to shoot the extreme heaviest for caliber bullets you'd want something a little faster than an 8tw but I'm not sure those extreme heavies were meant to be shot in things with higher velocities. I talked to Sierra about their 95gr SMK right after it was released and they told me it was meant for twist rates at 223 velocities, not for things that would launch them much faster. So a good compromise was to go 8tw and shoot the 80's, I'm sure I could shoot the 88's from my 8tw as well but have no real interest in them, yet. lol

Pretty much standard blank length is 28". More than that is extra per inch. A 28" should finish at 27" which is pretty long, you won't tell any difference between that and 1/2" more. Add a brake and it makes for a very long barrel.

i Went with a 8 twist 24” Brux #2. Kevin Cram is building it. Should be done in May. Can’t wait
And I'm certain it will shoot extremely well for you. Kevin is a good guy and builds a very fine rifle, he built a gun for me a few years ago.

That may be, but for some (I'm not one) the convenience of having premium quality head stamped brass "off the shelf" is a big consideration.
The 22-250AI may have a very tiny bit more case capacity over the 22 CM, but for me, I'd gladly trade a few fps for brass that is nearly ready to go right out of the box.

Nice, show photos when completed! This cartridge sounds like fun and easy to load for!

I picked up 1-8" twist Lilja with plans to shoot some non lead "Condor approved" bullets. Was going to do another swift but now? Want to use something about 70gr. It will be a sporting weight rifle with no more than 24" of barrel!
