.22 cal no-turn neck dia.

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
What is the diameter of no turn necks with say ,the 22-250ai? I have one with a .255 neck but some of my brass is hard to extract.Stop, you are thinking hot loads.I am using milder loads right now.I have a shilen-select-match barrel.Just want to see if I am doing something wrong.

My loaded Lapua 22-250 brass mikes at .252-.2525, but my Savage factory chamber is about .258. You are close if you are using Lapua brass, Win. brass is about .001 smaller diameter unturned.

jon: I can't speak for the 22-250AI, never had any AI ctg. for that matter, but my Pacific 223 reamer, that I had cut for a no-turn neck is .253". With Lapua brass the loaded neck diameter is .250", but with the thinner Winchester & Lake City it's .247"/.248". From what I've seen, most factory chambers will have chamber neck diameters of .256"/.257", so your .255" isn't that much less. A lot will depend on the brass you're using: neck wall thicknesses will vary a lot depending on the manufacturer. And, thinking about my 22BR with a .251" chamber neck, and Lapua brass, the loaded round neck dia. is .249" and I have to outside neck turn to .0125". With all that being said, your .255" should easily have enough clearance. A final thought: what is the diameter of your fired cases as they come out of the chamber? Whatever it is, add .001" and that will be ( or within a few ten thousandths) your chamber neck diameter.

i've got a a 22-250 .252 neck. i'm trim necks down to .0125, that puts me right around .249 loaded diam

.255 would be close. i'm thinking factory 22-250 chambers are a few thousands larger

edit - whoops i had to edit that, bad math

either way take a piece of fired brass and try to insert a bullet into the neck. if it goes in with no resistance then you have enough clearance

What brass are you using, Lapua is bigger at the web maybe your chamber is small at the back, If you use winchester are remington, are you getting the hard to open bolt, I have not had any of the new lapua brass in 22-250 to check the measurements against the win & rem, Its prob. .468 Its not a factory barrel so I would say it might have a little tighter chamber than a factory. and if you are using lapua that may be were you are getting the stiff bolt lift, and dose it have the famous bolt click, when it breaks open.

No it doesnt make a click. Just light galling of the neck.I neck turned some and problem solved. It is just a little tight with rem and win brass.
