.22 BR load data - bug holes!

Mine is a 40X rifle / rechambered barrel done in the 80's. At that time cases were made by necking down Rem. 7BR brass and took a bit of time. Chamber spec's were up to the riflebuilder. He was an avid benchrest shooter who also built most of the match guns in that area. I necked down 800 cases and he neckturned them on a lathe.

Rem 40X barrel
,243Nk (not a misprint)
Freebore unknown
50gr BlitzKing
31.5gr RL15 - This powder shot well and works terrific in a 22-250 / 22-250AI, but I think it's quite a bit too slow for the 22br. Still, that's what we used back then. Targets were shot in the 90's when I got a chrono, off the tailgate of my truck, haven't shot it since then. A very accurate round.

^^^^^ So that calculates to about .008-.009 neck thickness, with .002-.003 clearance..... yeah, that's pretty thin... sounds like that might have been set up like a PPC.

I have tried the 62 grain Hornady 62 grain ELD-VT in my 7-Twist 22BR
Best loads so far are 30.0 grains of Varget and 30.0 grains of H4895. Groups in the low 3's range. Haven't chronograph the loads yet.
Shot the 62 ELD-VT bullets again today in my 7-twist 22BR rifle. Both powders shot extremely good. I do believe that the Hornady 62grn ELD-VT bullet shoot better in a 7-twist than an 8-twist barrel. Just my opinion.
Varget 30.0grn 3235fps SD=5.2fps
Varget 30.5grn 3279fps SD=14fps

IMR4895 30.0grn 3213fps SD=6.3fps
IMR4895 30.5grn 3274fps SD=9.6fps

3 Shot Groups of the 30.5grn Varget and IMR4895

Our findings are that they shoot worse and worse the further over 300k rpm.

I think I'll make a 22xc 8 twist and run it up over 3500 fps and see if my findings are correct.

We currently run them under 3500 fps in the 8 twist and they shoot tiny groups effortlessly.
