.22 bench rest 50m groups

What sort of group sizes are you all getting at 50m? I was testing with my wife today, she has a CZ MTR sitting SK Match. It was consistently shooting 1/2" edge to edge groups (so -.22 off for centre to centre). It was nice and bright, no wind to speak of using 36x Sightron and Timmney trigger.

Four shots in the "smaller" group and five in the other. I'd this about what you'd expect from an MTR?

How many rounds down the barrel?
Usually get better as you age it.
Those are good groups.
I'd use a heavy construction paper target as those Birchwood Casey ones give a slight false reading
on group size cause of the "splatter" effect.
As long as they are touching, you're good to go.

Awesome groups! My MTR is new, and hasn't been to the range yet. I've got SK Rifle match to try in it, and hope that my results are at least similar to yours.

The MTR's seems to like the SK rifle match the most.
But you will see a difference in lot numbers.
Some will be great and others are just ok.
PITA with rimfires.

Around about 300 rounds now. We did shoot some on a proper card BR target, probably slightly smaller groups with a few extra shots. Over 65 shots ES was 44fps and SD7 Ave velocity 1097fps.

What are the laws over on the other side of the pond?
Can you only shoot at a range or can you shoot on your
own property if you have the room?
Does rimfire have different laws than centerfire?

Mostly on a range. You can have a private range if you have the land or shoot over it for game or vermin control. It's all very regulated though, you need a licence and permission from the police. It takes time and some money to get in to. The laws are the same for rimfire and center fire, obviously less places to shoot centerfire given the energy, range and a small country.

Pistols are banned, as are centerfire semi-auto rifles. A few workarounds like long barrelled revolvers or straight pull ARs but nothing your average US shooter would consider acceptable! If I was younger and richer I'd move to the US, you've got a lot more freedoms.

You have to make do with what you have though. Glad to see you are exercising your freedoms to the best of your ability. Nice shooting.

You on Rimfire central forum?
lots of info there.

All in all, MOA with a 22 is good.
Group shooting is almost more of an ammo test.
If you want to see the precision of the gun, draw out a grid of 1" squares and shoot the intersections.

So where are your groups??? The better half the better half then?/haha
She's good with her BR gun, shoots it better than me. Her scores are improving all the time now we've got it set up right. There's a lot to BR, different skill set to what I'm used to. It was shooting nicely for me too once I got used to it, but I'm really an offhand shooter. 25 at 25m OH with my Marlin attached ;) Yes I pulled one!

You're right, we're lucky to have a big club near us with lots of different opportunities from air gun to practical shotgun. Some very good shooters too.

Conservatively, I have shot in the low 2's and have never lot tested yet. I shot better with Eley match and Center X than Tennex and I always have wind. I have never really tuned the rifle technically, just messed with the tuner but never tuned with the Hopewell method. I would put it up against the CZ's anytime; it just has a tough time with the custom rifles. It depends on the barrel you get but that goes for any rifle. The Anchutz is a solid action and a lot of it is who is behind the trigger.

For that ammo and rifle that seems good.

A lot of serious shooters won’t have much to compare to since group sizes don’t serve a clear purpose in score BR competition. I shoot groups myself but it’s the scores that tell the tale. Small changes in ‘group size’ can make major swings in score, at least on the ARA target.

I think I should not have shown the two test groups the rifle shot. Just thought it would help seeing the gun will shoot. A serious shooter knows that any accurate rifle in the hands of an unskilled shooter that can't read conditions, especially with a 22RF is unlikely to post a very high score target or small group. I have yet to see a score target or group with any of the custom builds I have had. You hope you get a good barrel and it shoots what it shoots. If it doesn't shoot then change barrels
